This is just an idea that I wanted to get your opinion on. If we play the Jazz in the playoffs, why dont we put together a starting line up that the Jazz would not expect with a defense of a 3-2 zone? My line up:

    YAO
    DEKE
    RON
    LANDRY
    BROOKS

Use a 3-2 zone with deke and yao at the 5 and 4
with ron at 2 and landy at 3 and Brooks at point.

Its something they would not expect plus we can protect the paint, the paint that the jazz have been able to score in the 4th. What do you guys think?

They certainly would not expect that, that much is for sure....

Well, actually last night, Suns stopped Jazz with a zone. It wouldn´t be smart to use it all game long, but I don´t like the player you put there. Taht would be great to defend, but, what do we do when we have the ball?

It would be better a 2 - 3 with Barry doing the PG, Battier doing the guy completing the 2. Behind them Artest in one side, and Hayes/Landry in the other. The center of course Mt. Mutombo.

But 3 - 2 would be harder cause there is no way RA is going to play both Deke and Yao. So it would have to be Yao and Landry, then Battier, Artes and Lowry.

i think your proposal of having mutombo and yao on the floor at the same time is ridiculous.

The problem is trying to score points. The Rockets can't go 4 minutes stretches
at a time without scoring against the Yazz.

Yes... and the OP solution to this problem was adding DEKE in the lineup and replacing Scola with Landry.

I just would like to see if changing the starting line up with a zone defense would throw off the Yazz.

Another problem we have is letting role players get hot at us. Sometimes I wish we could play single coverage and completely stop the other players. Dwill and Boozer are going to destry us anyway. But Okur, Brewer, Knight, Korver, Miles even Millsap, we can´t let them get hot It makes me so mad when anyone of those score on us.

Yeah, but it'd be funny to see the WTF look on Sloan's face for a few minutes.

from the first minutes of the game, you can see that we tried to play an up-tempo game with the Jazz. I think that was a mistake. Ron has to realize that he's not going to get the calls, so stop trying to drive to the basket. I rather have Luis Scola take mid-range jumpers all game long. Another thing is practice those fast breaks. Unable to convert those fast breaks really killed us in that game.

That's one thing about Ron. He plays aggressive driving to the hole... not to make the shot but get the call. When that doesn't happen - he stop driving. He start shooting jumpers like he's Ray Allen.

Tracy was different tho. He would drive not for the contact but try and make the shot... I think that would be better than driving just to expect contact.

it'd be great cuz they wont score inside..but what about outside? boozer can shoot the mid-range, and okur and shoot the 3, yao and deke would be too slow for them

no one in the nba ever tries anything like this, it's always either small ball or regular....i think that would be a great idea, no one would expect it, you still get scoring out of yao, brooks, landry and ron, and have extra d to protect the paint...if they start hitting the jumpers youll have to switch to a man to man though. adelman would never dare such a thing, but i think it could be a great strategic move just to throw the jazz off, because they come out guns blazin, its key to stop them from the start of the 1st and 3rd or they gain too much momentum

Is there a rule that we have to have 5 players on the court? I say we just put Battier and Ron out there. They're both good at defense, right?

LOL, I don't think we should ever start Deke and Yao together. There's not enough space for Yao to operate as it is. We really need a 3pt shooting PF to help open the floor like the Spurs do with Duncan and Bonner. Maybe move Artest to PF and play Wafer/Battier/Barry more on the wings since Landry's out...
