I am not particularly a fan of his films...Chasing Amy was pretty cool, but sort of predictable...Clerks was interesting, Mallrats bored me, except Jason Lee is funny man, and J&SBSB was pretty awful once you get over laughing at the 2 or 3 jokes re-run throughout the movie, but... ...I watched this " An Evening With Kevin Smith" speaking concert film last night, as he's on a tour of colleges...and the man is absolutely hillarious. I was roaring...and some of the girls I live with watched it with me again later last night...and we all were in tears. If you haven't seen it, oh my God. It's his delivery...his material...his faces...he's a natural storyteller, and good on his feet. He's honest, intelligent, and just a freaking riot. Anyone...anyone who hasn't seen this, run, don't walk, to wherever you can get access to it, and curl up for almost 4 hours of great fun.
Yea, I bought it when is first came out back in December, REALLY hilarious stuff. Kevin Smith is a great performer and knows how to work the audience. Loved the bit with Jason Mewes where he came out of nowhere. The stories he had were intersting like the Daredevil/Jersey Girl cross scheduling, him meeting his wife, and the part where he managed to get those 4-5 people in the show. The best had to be "Do have any intentions in doing a Sci-Fi movie" Kevin's answer "I think I already did, it was called Chasing Amy, you ask any lesbian out there, that WILL NEVER HAPPEN". Funny stuff. MacBeth, you should borrow all of his DVDs and listen to the commentarys. He has some of the best commentary out in the DVD world and is just as funny as the "Evening" DVD.
Will do... My favorite bits were the one about Superman lives...lol...and the whole Prince montage...The 1st night with his wife was hillarious too, and the stuff about Mewes, yeah...especially the progression of his 'acting'...
HAHAHA, i forgot about the Superman Lives part. "I want a big Spider in the movie" "Did he tell you about the spider?" "The next movie he did was "Wild Wild West"" funny stuff. Forgot to mention, did u catch the easter eggs? Loved the one where he saw a couple of people leaving and asking them why. "Where u going? Nothing great came out in theaters today, what are going to watch? KPAX? that damn NSYNC movie??"
No, I haven't. I have heard it's good, but when it was out I was tired of seeing Damon and Affleck's mugs, so I didn't see it...and besidees, I knew Allanis Morrisette years ago, and if she's God, we're in deep pucky.
Yeah, I recommended this in the worst actors thread. Of course I like all of his stuff so it is no surprise that I liked this. I will also second Dave's recommendation of his commentary tracks.
they air dogma on comedy central a lot but they've really butchered it to make it basic cable friendly.
Macbeth, Pleeeeeze elaborate - I've always wondered about how that girl might be out in the real world...
Back when I knew here her angst was less evident, hidden, as it was, behind a huge mop of dyed red hair, tons of makeup, and kind of Madonna-ish clothes, and her music was less of the social commentary/personal confession, unless her commentary on society, and/or personal confessions involved Boy Band style dance numbers in sync ( heh) with back up dancers, and really terrible lyrics ( Never Too Hot being her biggest of the dance-pop numbers)...My ex really knew her well, I just met her by proxy...but she was all right, sort of a typical teenage girl, except she did television shows, sang, etc...She talked non-stop, but rarely said anything..actually, she wasn't all that bad...but God, no...not what first came to mind when you saw her.
The only reason I rented Phantoms was because of that line from J&SBSB. one of the dumbest horror movies ever...
