An arrest has been made in the cold case for the East Area Rapist.

Wow. I listen to a lot to a ton of true crime podcasts and this has been covered extensively on all of them. Can't believe it's possibly been solved after all these years..

 

He was a terrorist in the true sense. Tying up husbands and raping their wives, making women tie up their husbands and then put guns to their heads and order the woman to do depraved sexual deeds or he'd kill the husband, etc. Think he raped a kid too, like a 10 year old or something.

I don't care how old he is and I don't care if he's sick, they need to put him in jail for the rest of his life.

 

EARONS should be in his 70’s right? This actually underrated news, after the Zodiac Killer, this probably one of the most famous recent era unsolved cases.

This is major news.

The Original Night Stalker.... AKA Golden State Killer, East Area Rapist/Killer, Diamond Killer

Dude is one of the most prolific rapists and murderers in history.

They know of at least 50 rapes and a dozen murders, but it is expected that his actual body count is 4-5 times that number.

Look at it this way, they have no crimes connected to him since the early 1980's and there is no way he suddenly stopped killing people, he just got better at it. The dozen murders and 50 rapes that are known to have been committed by him where from a 10 year span. We have almost 35 years of no linked activity.

It isn't just the sheer body count, it is the level of torture he committed and his ability to frequently write to the police and his victims and never be caught.

There are some that think the Original Night Stalker is the Zodiac Killer. I am doubtful of this, but outside of the Zodiac, this is the largest fish in the sea.

 

Known facts.

The Original Night Stalker was a police officer.

He has a military background.

 

Allegedly he’s also admitted to law enforcement that he wad indeed the Visalia Ransacker.

 

Wow.....

That would mean that he would be positively linked to over 300 house break ins and possibly another 3-4 murders.

So right now that means

Approximately 12-16 verifiable murders

Approximately 55 verifiable rapes

Attempted murder of a police officer

300 house break ins.

All of this in a 10 year period of time AND we don't know what he has been doing the last 35-40 years. I know the suspicion in law enforcement circles has been that he has been active, just far better at not developing a pattern.

So we could easily be talking about 1000's of crimes.

 

The subject of the book released in 2018 by Patton Oswalt late wife. She may have been the person who cracked the case.

Did she name DeAngelo in the book, if so, why?

 

Was this a case of relatives subscribing to DNA services, and the net closing on him like that? Can't tell exactly from what I'm reading.

 

What he means is that the book helped someone identify and turn in the suspect. The book collected and published tons of new information that helped end this cold case.

I'm sure they'll address it at the presser in 20 mins.

About 7 years ago I moved to the area east of Sacramento very close to where he operated. At the time I was puzzled by the number of homes in my upper middle class/very low crime neighborhood that had barred windows. When I became aware of the East Area Rapist's history in the area, I wondered if the two were connected.
