Billups and now garbage gilbert are telling teams that they want to decide what team they will play for like they are free agents. Stern and other officials need to remind these guys how the system works so every player doesnt start this crap. Teams bid and the highest bidder wins. bottom line

The rules will be enforced. Billups and Arenas CANNOT decide where they end up. They WILL go to the highest bidder.

How they play and their attitude are a different story. There are no rules that they can put in place to control how a player feels about a transaction or possible transaction.

If they are claimed, they have no choice, but there is nothing wrong with telling teams buyer beware.

Even Randy Moss didn't b**** about having to go to the Titans last year. He sucked for em' sure, but at least he reported to work.

Fair enough, but you just don't see players lash out like this in the NFL, and the kicker is, NFL players have it far, far worse. Maybe the NBA players are just being defiant because they're not used to this system. It is temporary I supposed -- a 1-time deal.

It's up to whatever team to have the stones to put a claim in. Can't knock the guys for punking people....if they are gonna roll over.

Whatever. Billups is past his prime, he is paid, we get it. So he won't show up for just any team? Good. If the contenders won't pick him up (I'm not so sure they will), he just won't play. Not that any rebuilding team is just one-Chauncey-away from becoming a contender. I can't say that any team would desperately need a Chauncey Billups. His price tag will surely come lower with the reduced competition.

It will be interesting to see what guys go for on the amnesty list. This is an opportunity for Miami to pick up a big if I understand the rules right.

Arenas cleared waivers. According to amnesty rules, he is a free agent. The league does not need to enforce anything.

    Billups is a another matter.

As far as I'm concerned "buyer beware" should be just as punishable as demanding/holding out for a trade.

It's better than not saying anything and then doing nothing under your guaranteed contract. It is annoying from a fan's viewpoint, but still less annoying than having 4M guaranteed for 4 years on your payroll doing literally nothing.

Pick him up for cheap (since he's depressing competition on the waiver wire) and force him to make good on his threat. Then suspend him and don't pay him.

Do they get more money after clearing waivers? Os is it still deducted from their amnestied contract?

If by 'no guaranteed contracts', you mean 'some contracts are fully guaranteed', then you are correct.

    amnesty clause is r****ded.
first it rewards the rich/stupid teams with who made bad decisions (basically a bail out)
second it does not prevent the contenders from picking a serviceable player for ultra cheap if that player ala billups or baron davis says that they will be disruptive if they don't get what they want (but they still want to get paid).

    Here's one solution.
    -amnesty clause should be tradeable
-if a player does not get any bids, then that contract should be void. EX: if billups does not get picked up by any team during the bid, then he will lose his 14mil / yr contract.

They only get the original amount. The old team is responsible for the difference between the old contract amount and what the new team is paying.

No I mean in the NFL, you can cut someone and not have to worry about paying them any more money....
