American Idol

I was rooting for Latoya to win it all. And Jasmine second just because for some reason I don't like Fantasia or Diana.

Such a shocker, though. Maybe the people should sing like crap next week to get sympathy votes.

 

I think Fantasia is the best. In the end this is a voter's show. And most voters are young kids. They are not gonna necessarily vote for the best talent. Latoya looks like she could be 30, so these kids don't get too excited.

I agree, Im going for Jasmine just because she is filipino.

But Fantasia sucks ass, im sorry. She sounds like Macy Gray and she annoys the hell out of me.

 

OMG, did anybody watch Fox News after Idol? They have this STUPID segment where these 2 fashion critics (they look fruity to me) critique each contestent's outfits. WTF? First off, they are probabley FORCED to wear Old Navy since they are major sponsers. Hell I love Old Navy myself, but I dont think I am fashion model dresser. Second of, umm, these contestents are here to sing, not dress up to impress 2 friuty critics.

Im sorry, but KRIV has lost alot of respect from me after watching that, they better thank they have Mark Berman.

 

After last night, Diana is my new favorite. George was my favorite from the start. He was so cool.

LaToya blew me away with her singing and it's unfortunate that we don't get the best three for the grand finale.

 

I don't mean to be controversial, but tonight's outcome was disgusting. Once again the two african american girls, who have been the most consistently great singers of the whole competition, get the shaft. There is a definite undercurrent of something here; if not outright racism, then an inherent tendency to vote for the non-african american contestants. The same thing happened to Tamyra Grey during the first season. She was arguably the best singer of that season (equal to Kelly Clarkson at the very least) and ended up leaving well before her time.

The final result of this show was obvious three weeks ago. The white blond girl is going to win in a landslide.

 

Also, before someone says it, the "Well, Reuben won!" argument does not hold any weight. Reuben had that special chubby velvet teddybear factor working for him. I don't think an average-looking black dude with Reuben's voice would have beaten Clay Aiken.

 

Maybe there was a blackout in Chicago again.

 

Jennifer Hudson was the best.....She got robbed.

 

If there is racist voting, that doesn't account for the fact that 3 out of the last 5 contestants were black. Plus I think that Diana looks mixed, does anyone know for sure? She doesn't look just white in my opinion. She doesn't sing like a typical white girl, that's for sure.

I think that like John S., Jasmine has some kind of following that is deaf to talent. She's a cute little girl that has an okay voice but a sweet innocent smile.

I guess that people don't respect the judges' opinions at all.

Everything will be fine for La Toya, I personally think that she'll have the most successful post-AI career. To me she has the most refined star qualities and a great professional voice.

I don't think that it hurt Jasmine's chances by showing some tears last night. I actually felt sorry for her because I was sure that she would be gone. I won't feel sorry for her anymore because she's way further than she should be. She just won another week of being bashed by the judges.

 

The bottom line is that if Fox actually cared about getting the best singer to win they would do their voting right. When you ask people to vote for their favorite problems occur suck as apathy for a person, busy phone lines, etc.

If you have America vote for who they want out this is not a problem. If the phone line is continuously busy then that's good and that person will get voted out.

The problem is that American Idol could not then say "We had 28 million votes" because people would not vote for 6 different people just to try to keep them in.

La Toya's out and that's Fox's fault. The redhead would have been gone a lot earlier too had they done the voting the sensible way.

I agree. this years show doesnt cut it anymore. I tried to get interested in the show, but its not compelling enough to watch it. I dont like any of the singers much either.

On the other hand, the first and second season of the show was great. I particularily liked the second season. Good personalities, along with good singing.

I wish it was still like this in season 3.

 

I guess I can't be shocked what happened when that godawful JPL was alive for as long as he was. That guy was a miserable singer who looked as if he were having a seizure while dancing. This year, the American public is showing how stupid they really are sometimes. Either that or the entire population of Hawaii is jamming up the satellites to vote for Jasmine, because she sucks!
I'm surprised that cutie Diana has made it this far. Keep it real for the Ga!

 

Not to mention that they dissed the only dress in the last 5 weeks that Diana actually looked cute in. Everything else she has worn has been terrible and made her hips look about 3 feet wide. That segment was weak.

My wife was reallly angry with the results - she said "she just survived because she cried last night - I hate that kind of woman".

I can kind of understand what happened though. It could be that when you have 2 similar performers, they split the vote for that type of performer. It could also be, as others have postulated, that they have been splitting the black vote.

Hopefully Fantasia can win now, anyway - I would have been ok with either of them winning, but Jasmine isn't on the same level singing and Diana doesn't look like an American Idol.

At least this is better than last year - Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard, your choices for American Idol!!! Sheesh - American crooner maybe. Clay has to be the ugliest, dorkiest, freakiest guy with 15 minutes on American TV ever.

 

Give me a break about American Idol being racist. That is just ridiculous. Rueben (not a pop star), George (sucked), Jennifer (inconsistent), Latoya (to classy), etc. just didnt have staying power. The only one that really has what it takes to be a pop star is Fantasia.

Jennifer Hudson was decent but not consistent at all. She could be really good and other times she was not that great. She left earlier than she should have but was clearly not the best.

Latoya was definitely the best singer but she didnt perform like a pop star. She was married and like someone else pointed out, she looked like she was 30. I dont know if she looked like she was 30 but she definitely acted like she was older than her age. Being married and having kids will do that to you. I liked her a lot because she had class. I think she will be a star but in a good way.

Jasmine just doesnt do it for me. She is cute and sings ok but besides that I dont really like her.

Diana is really good. She sings really well and has good stage presence. She should definitely be in the top 3 but I do not think she is better than Latoya and Fantasia. I think Diana will be a poor mans Kelly Clarkson.

Fantasia is awesome. She isnt quite as good as Latoya but this b**** can freaking sing. And she can perform like a mother. I love to watch her on AI and I have hoped from early on that she would win. She does have a slight Macy Gray sound to her (I hate Macy Gray) but she it doesnt annoy me like Macy. She is just fun to watch. I do get tired of hearing about her kid.

I disagree. The problem with the "3 Divas" before was that ALL 3 of them were splitting the votes (because all 3 were THAT good). Well, the same problem occurred last night again. Fantasia and LaToya divided the vote, and BOTH ended up in the bottom 2 (making Jasmine safe). Think somewhere along the lines of Nader taking out Gore in the last election and allowing Bush to win the presidency. So, now that only ONE of the original "Divas" is still in, expect the whole vote to go to her. It's gonna be a Diana-Fantasia American Idol final.

Okay. Enough with voting theory and on to the rant. LaToya was my favorite in the competition, and now that she's gone, I just don't have the will to watch the show anymore. I think I speak for a LOT of people, too. I can only hope that AI's ratings plummet now, thereby forcing FOX to rethink how they do their voting. Hell, maybe they'll start FIXING the vote so the best singers reach the finals. Sure, it defeats the purpose of the whole contest, but it also ensures that the next John Stevens won't make the top five. FOX has to realize that people out there are purposely voting for the bad people to make the show look bad. It happened in season 1 with Nikki McKibbon (and the hordes of dorks using speed dialers to vote for her). She made it to the top 3! Do something, FOX!

So, now we're left with Diana ("Snarf"), Fantasia ("Pez Head"), and Jasmine ("Lilo"). I loathe Fantasia, I think Jasmine bottomed out weeks ago, and I can't listen to Diana without interjecting "Snarf!" into whatever she sings. So, there's nothing here for me.

For the record, I think Snarf is gonna win. According to insiders, she's been #1 in the vote for 4 straight weeks, and the songwriters behind the original songs used for the finals have been told to tailor them for her, much like they did for Kelly Clarkson. ... But, like firecat, I think that LaToya will have the most success out of all the AI3 contestants.

 

Ditto and ditto! My wife is from Hawaii and all of her relatives start calling us around the end of the show to find out who got voted off. It gets sorta annoying when Fox delays the start of the show by 30 minutes to an hour.

Fantasia = Macy Gray = stuck loogie. Hock it up and you'll sing beautifully!
