Anybody see my man George Huff make it into the top 12? And Simon chose him, of all poeple! I'm so happy for him. George has always been really cool to me and definitely deserves this. Its just so weird seeing someone you know and work with up there on National TV, performing for millions. We've been having big George watch parties here at OU for the past four weeks or so and I still can't get used to it. Man, I hope you guys can find it in yourselves to vote for a Sooner. :) He really deserves it. Just think of it as voting for AstroRocket's bud. Plus, he came out of the Houston auditions, so there's a little hometown pride there. Ah, well, I'm ranting now. I gotta go study for a test I have coming up. Just wanted to post a little of my pro George giddiness before I do. :)

The title needs to change for this. Once again, needs to be warned as a spoiler for those who haven't seen it.

It was on tonight...it has already aired, the show ended 4 minutes BEFORE this was posted.

    Carry on...nothing to see here.

I see George is from New Orleans, and he was a cook there. Do you know where he worked?

But some people have TIVO or DVR's and they record the shows and they then watch them later. I am one of these people. I have a couple weeks of shows that I havent watched and dont want it to be ruined by seeing a thread. Average Joe 2 was ruined for me because they posted the results in the thread name. If you want to talk about the show then great but dont name the thread with what happens. If you name the thread, American Idol, I dont know who is picked. If I then go into the thread and read a spoiler, then that is my own damn fault. On the other hand if you name the thread AVERAGE JOE LOSES AGAIN, then I dont have that luxury. It is just a courtesy to those who havent seen the show.

If you have Tivo, then you KNOW you have Tivo, and need to avoid these threads.

I see no reason that people should post SPOILER for those few who may have recorded it.

    Police yourself.

How can I do that if the spoiler is in the name of the thread? If you had read my whole response you would have seen that I had mentioned that. I dont think that you have to monitor what you write in the thread, just dont put the spoiler in the thread name.

    edit: unnecessary snide comment.

It's been common practice here, you know it's gonna happen, so quit looking at the BBS if you don't want to see it.

That's what y'all get for recording and watching dumbass shows like this anyway! :D

    Exactly RM,

How long until it is OK to post about it?

People like to post about topical events, and I am certainly not going to worry about posting about something interesting because someone MIGHT have recorded it.

    Puuuhhhlllleaaasssee !

That would be like not being able to post in the GARM what the final score was....heck I record about half of the games and watch them after the family is in bed....during that time, I POLICE MYSELF and don't check the BBS.

DD, how do you avoid threads like this when we visit every forum on this BBS?

Scenario: You go into the BBS Hangout, and bam, the 1st thread is "George is in the Top 12!".

Now how the hell do you avoid that? If someone is going to post about a show that has a spoiler, there has to be a WARNING or SPOILER in the thread.

Uh, maybe you don't go into the Hangout? Whenever I tape a game, I certainly don't go to the first page of Clutchfans, the GARM forum, ESPN, or any other place where I may see the score.

You know that these types of things are discussed here. If you don't want to know the result, wait to come in here until you've watched the show.

The final score, final outcome, and final comments would be in the main thread anyways. So bad example.

Now on how long to post? It can be posted, but the title could of been "American Idol Wild Card Results" or something related to that. Then users who haven't seen it can avoid the thread.

Um, maybe I do, RM95. Like MB said earlier in the thread, we have TiVos and DVRs that record them. We also like to come to the BBS to read up on news, sports, etc. How do you know the activity of the other users on this BBS? I'm just asking for the titles of spoilers need to be adjusted for other users who come into the Hangout.

Good point and I'd concede that if someone from one of those time zones was complaining, but they're not. :)

Actually, he was a cook at OU, and I was actually the guy to take over his old job, running the morning omlette bar in the cafeteria (or Couch Restaurant, depending on what they call it on the show).

Also, as far as the spoiler thing goes, sorry about that. I was just so excited for my friend. I'll make sure to add spoiler tags and post the results within the thread in the future.

That's fine...and the next time I go to ESPN and find out who won the game I taped based on one of their titles, I'll whine to them about putting that in the their titles.

Or, I just won't go to ESPN. It's really that simple.

    Exactly RM,

How long until it is OK to post about it?

Do you even read posts before you respond to them? The complaints had nothing to do with when the post was made. This is your third response, responding to 3 comments, all of which referenced the title of the thread, not the time it was posted. It's almost like you only have one response and no matter what the other person's comment, you say the same thing over and over, no matter how irrelevant it is.

    Here's the bizarre conversation simplified:

Nwo: The title needs to change for this.

DD: It was on tonight...it has already aired (nothing to do with anything)

MB: If you want to talk about the show then great but dont name the thread with what happens...If I then go into the thread and read a spoiler, then that is my own damn fault.

DD: If you have Tivo, then you KNOW you have Tivo, and need to avoid these threads. (MB already said he'd avoid the thread)

MB: How can I do that if the spoiler is in the name of the thread?

DD: How long until it is OK to post about it? (again, nothing to do with the thread title)

Why is it such a problem to not put the outcome in the name of the thread? You can still talk all you want about what happened inside the thread? You dont even have to put "spoilers" in the thread name or anywhere in the thread. Like I said once before, why not name the thread "American Idol". Then talk about how great George is and how he made it to the top 12 inside the thread. If I go in the thread and read the outcome, then that is my fault.

I dont think that I should have to avoid coming to the BBS because I havent watched American Idol yet. There are plenty of other things to read about besides American Idol.

I think it is a simple request that has merit. I'm sure if it spoiled something that you enjoyed then you would appreciate the same courtesy. I dont understand what the fuss is about.
