Reading this BBS has got me to thinking about the USA and it's role in the world. People here are criticisizing the USA and calling us empire builders, or asking the question about whether or not we have the right to attack Iraq. They are free to ask that question as they like, however consider this. America is directly responsible for the following. 1. Freeing Western Europe from Hitler. 2. Freeing Eastern Europe from the USSR. 3. Freeing China from Japan 4. Freeing Africa from Hitler 5. Freeing Italy From Mussolini 6. Freeing the USSR from Communism It just seems that the middle east is next in line in our quest to have a free and democratic world. It is a battle of societies, our way versus their way. Free people vs people that are repressed. There is only one reason that we are the most powerful nation on the earth, and that is Freedom. Let it ring throughout the world. Once the world is rid of theocracies, and despots, it will be a much safer place. People who have a good life are less likely to become terrorists. So, let's go...take out Saddam first, then we will continue to spread Freedom throughout the world. DD
Nope, Rwanda needs it too. Everywhere !!! Why are you such a cynic these days? RM95's girl move away? DD
I'm not a cynic at all, and I agree with your post. I was just pointing out that we don't always get involved when I think we should be, and explaining why the argument that we're trying to liberate the Iraqi people rings hollow to some. Me, I'm happy with what we're doing, and I don't want this to be a one-time thing.
In my opinion, if a nation's people want freedom and it is known then I don't mind the US helping them revolt. But I don't think it is our place to impose our will on the world. People will get tired of the govt and revolt. It always happens. Iraq is a terrorist supporting state and that's why I think we should eliminate it's regime. Yes we did (with help) everything on Dada's list, but there was always a purpose to secure safety and stability for the US. If our foreign policy is "liberation of oppressed people" then let's do it everywhere. Start in The Middle East, then Africa, Asia and then South America.
RM95, I agree that we need to be more consistent in our spread of democracy. Rwanda is a great example of that. I think that 9-11 is a wake up call, that we need to be proactive is spreading our views around the world. Hopefully, we will be more consistent in doing so...if we are going to be the world's police, we need to make sure that we do it evenly. DD
They need liberation? Actually, one of my friends, born in Mexico, is pretty angry that the US basically ignored the problems they have had over there for a long time. It hasn't been until recently that they had fair elections and opened up their economy. He thinks the US should have done something.
Pasox, That depends, are they under a tyranical leader, and do their governments openly sponsor terrorists? If so, then yes. DD
That's the frustrating part right there. If the US does something we are blamed. If we don't do something then we are still blamed. Being the lone superpower stinks sometimes.
this president bush has got the ameircan people on a holy mission free all the mankind from their evil government on this planet earth , yeah next time bush invade another country its becuz their government are evil and their people want liberation.....
Ilovethisgame, What if the people do want to be freed? Of course if people are happy, the goverment is stable, and they are not supported terrorism they have nothing to fear. DD
