Amen shagging top two-man lineups with both AlP and Brooks

Man, I wonder who our two best prospects could be…

 

what does a 2man lineup prove. like is this data any good from a reasonable standpoint?

dont get me wrong this is awesome, and i think highlights our 2 best prospects, but im just confused on the validity of a stat like this.

Amen is also part of the best 5 man lineup. Ime needs to get him playing 35 min a night.

 

I gotta say I'm surprised Amen and Sengun has worked so well this season. I expected them to be okay, but was worried that other teams would just pack the paint.

 

I'm not quite nerdy enough to fully understand these sorts of things - but notice that every single one of them is from a top team in the NBA. To me, that indicates that it means something. There are zero outliers.

 

So does that mean a 3 man lineup of Sengun, Thompson, and Brooks is 32.5 Net? Hahaha. Basketball is becoming like baseball with this "stats."

 

well, thats just that. It proves they are on a good team. But there are more starters missing then present on this list from each ranking.

5 man lineups make sense to me.

2 man lineups seems obscure and doesnt prove anything to me that 5 man lineups doesnt. It misses a ton of information and context.

it just feels like having a stat to have a stat.

 

I like 2-man lineup stats more for intra-team review. Lumping up the teams basically just shows the best 2-man groups on good teams.

When looking at the Rockets, 10 of the Top 11 2-man lineups are every combination of FVV, Sengun, Brooks, Eason, and Thompson with a JSJ-Eason lineup as the 11th. Basically, I think this shows FVV, Sengun, Brooks, Eason, and Thompson are the core of a very strong team that just needs a little more juice.

 

Where does the combo of Joe, Dort rank?

 

Data said SGA is the real deal. And Amen is getting there. Nothing else.

As much as I like Amen, 2-man +/- stats don't mean much because the other 3 guys on the court matter too.

4-man and 5-man +/- stats are legit.

The only useful 2-man stats are mins played together (or % mins played together), which indicate how the HC groups players together in the rotation.

 

That's cause point differential correlates incredibly highly to winning percentage. This is raw net rating not adjusted for replacements, so it is basically impossible to have this number very high for a bad team. A hypothetical Luka/Jokic team with 10 scrubs would not rank highly here even if everyone would trade any of these two-man lineups list for Luka/Jokic in a heartbeat.

 

Could have had Scottie Barnes from the 2021 class too. When I think about a team that includes either of Mobley or Barnes with Thompson, Eason and Brooks. My god the defense.

 

Amen doesn’t have to start, but I think it’s time that we begin thinking about how we make that happen.
