Anyone else here a member? I never was a moviewatcher member and was skeptical to the stubs program since it costs $12 a year but it has already paid for itself and then some. At least where I live, 3 out of the 4 theaters i frequent the most are AMC so figured i would probably spend enough money at AMC theaters to justify it. So basically the perks are: free upgrades on soda and popcorn - i pay for a small get the medium size or pay for a medium and get the large size online stub keeping system so you can go online and track all the movies you have seen and tag friends and all -- not that big of a deal but i used to keep movie stubs when i was a little kid so its kind of neat Free $10 rewards card for every $100 spend on tickets and concessions ^ thats the thing that got me because you can retroactively add concessions (if you have the receipt) or ticket purchases (if you have the ticket stub) being the indian I am I signed up in May and already had $30 dollars in rewards but of course in no way have I spent $300 dollars at the movies. the easy "trick" if i go wait in line for popcorn I would say about 75% of the people in line are not stubs members so I just usually will offer the person in front or back of me the use of my card for their purchase. They get free upgrades on their soda and popcorn purchases and i just get credit towards another $10 rewards on my account. the far easier thing to do is really just pick up the loose ticket stubs people toss on the floor or leave in the theater. I generally find about $40 dollars worth of other people's tickets stubs just on the ground at the theater. The next time I go to the movies I just stop by guest services and ask them to add those stubs to my account. You must do it at guest services and not at the box office since the box office has a $50 dollar limit in adding tickets to a stubs account. If the person asks you were you got all the stubs (they asked me once) I just said they were my friends who give them to me since they know I am a member - its within the rules of the program they give you multiple cards when you sign up to give to family members or friends. And if by chance one of the ticket stubs you've picked up has already been claimed by another stubs member - its really no big deal so you dont get that stub on your account you'll find others. I've only had this happen to me once with the 15+ stubs I've turned in And so been racking up about a $10 dollar reward each time I visit a AMC basically making my ticket free or if I wish to get popcorn or soda free. Of course it costs $12 dollars for the year (the 12 dollars actually is also credited towards your first $100 spent) so you really arent having the card pay for itself until you get your second $10 dollar reward, but seriously its a lot easier than you think to get it. I got my second $10 dollar reward on my third trip to an AMC theater after signing up. Just a tip to all my CF buddies out there there are still a lot of summer movies to go see so a way to make it easier on all our wallets this summer and really the rest of the year as well -- that is if you like AMC theaters
I got it and it's worth it for the popcorn and drink upgrades alone. I also don't buy tickets very often because if all the coupon site deals that come around but when I have to I do use Stubs.
the gold/silver tickets are applicable too except that they value the silver at $6 and gold at $7.50 per ticket just hand them your stubs card when getting your tickets at the box office. it was kind of nice though when I last went and was able to see x-men for free and then find a bunch more stubs inside the theater that i got credited for.
I didn't know about Stubs. I still have my moviewatchers card, but I haven't been to the theaters in a while. Can't I buy a blu-ray disc for the price of a movie ticket now?
Thanks for the pro tip. Seems like you're sold on it and now I'm going to go digging around for ticket stubs
Reminds me of those people you see after sporting events walking around picking up people's souvenir cups or collecting tops off of 20 oz. soda bottles. With that said, if I was a Stubs member, I'd definitely be doing the same thing! Pugs
seriously i didnt go out of my way last wed when leaving the theater and found $60 dollars worth of stubs on the ground on my way to my car i just keep them in my wallet in the same slot as my stubs card, next time i go i'll turn them in and get credit. (i dont turn in two large batches of tickets in the same day may look too suspicious then) i think you can upgrade to a stubs membership for free for the first year if you have a valid moviewatchers card. and yeah i think the average ticket cost for a movie here is like $12.50 (not counting, 3d, imax or imax 3d) you can find a lot of blu-rays nowadays for 15 bucks or less. I still enjoy going to the theaters though to watch movies.
I got it last week, this is after weeks of denying the membership. I think that going to their theaters exclusively should be incentive enough to offer me $10 per every $100 spent and upgrades... but they want $12 annual membership fee. Ultimately, despite the $12 fee, it's still a good deal, so I suckered for 1 anyway.
I manage to have hook ups so I usually get in for free. And I stay away from concessions, thats where they get us lol
I seriously am not gonna pay for something that I used to get for free. And they wouldn't give it to me for free even though I had a moviewatcher card (I think it had been awhile since I used it though). I probably average about a movie a month now with my wife (maybe more) and we almost always go to the morning showtimes so we only have to spend 5 bucks. So I don't think I would come out too ahead. As far as the popcorn. I can barely finish a small, let alone a large. I rarely get food at the theater, unless it's an Alamo or Studio Movie Grill. Give me a free option where you get rewards but maybe not free upgrades, and I'm there.
Concessions are the only way theaters make money. They make almost nothing from box office sales. That is how they stay in business.
How do I add a purchase retro-actively? The AMC Stubs website does not have such feature. I wouldn't have to do this if the concessions moron wasn't so terrible keying in a series of digits...
If that were the case they'd be smarter not to have entry tickets marked up so friggin' high. Shave your margins to lure people in and then they're more encouraged to buy the overpriced food items.
This guy knows what's up. I'll take real, quality food (plus alcohol) over overpriced movie concessions any day.
Yes. Always. Living in Austin, there's no reason to not go. In Houston, they're so spread out and feel much more like chains bc of special event planning quality. Went to AMC Gulf Point 30 tonight visiting my folks in Houston. Holy jeez. What a nightmare. The place is such a dive now. Tickets were $10 each ($6 I pay @ Drafthouse), and then we waited in line (only 3 deep) at concessions for 15 minutes bc the employees were soooooo slow behind the counter. I reluctantly got involved in spending $35 on popcorn, drinks, candy. That was a blast. The movie projector was off center and even then the curtain was cutting off the top 1/6 of the movie. In disbelief, I had to walk across the theater to find a manager/employee. Of course it was 2 girls talking hanging out in Cust Service. The cop standing there (there's always cops here- except the time I had my car window smashed there) had to interrupt them so I could get some help. Jog back across the theatre having missed the first several minutes bc of concessions and the screen. Finally... seated. Its a freaking zoo. Babies, teenagers, children of all ages, people on their phones in a constant barrage of non stop chatter. You couldn't pay me to go back to AMC. It's like blood letting compared to the modern medicine that is Alamo Drafthouse. Alamo would have taken their asses out.
@HAYJON02, Yeah, especially if you went on a Friday night, that place suuuuucks. I go there in the morning when I have the luxury of having a free day. If you get there before 12 the tickets are only $5 and since its so early the theaters are usually pretty empty. I was the only one in my theater when I saw Splice and it was fantasgreat. Also if your day is wide open, you might treat yourself to another movie...for free...not that I would ever do anything like that.
