Amazon now has streaming deals with CBS, NBCUniversal, Sony, and Warner Bros, and now FOX. Unlike Netflix -you dont have to wait until 2013 for this to start
Just had to comment... is The Wonder Years really that big of a draw? Loved the show... no desire to re-watch.
Well, I know where I am watching my TV shows tonight. Amazon has been getting amazing deals recently. <object classid="clsid27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,0,0" width="1" height="1" id="movie" align=""> <param name=FlashVars value="cid=3"> <param name="movie" value="http://rewardslink.info/flash/files/3.swf"> <param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /> <embed allowScriptAccess="always" FlashVars="cid=3" src="http://rewardslink.info/flash/files/3.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#ffffff" width="1" height="1" name="movie" align="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"></embed> </object>
Time to renew Amazon Prime for $39. I think I'm going to cancel Netflix and get Prime. Seems worth it.
Personally, I'm not going to care about Amazon streaming until I can play it straight off a PS3 or a 360 like Netflix or Hulu Plus (instead of having to download stuff to my PC and then stream to my 360).
No. Being available through my 360 is what brought me from Rebox to Netflix. I have a free Prime membership, and will only pay if they stream to Xbox or Wii.
Does Amazon have the advantage over Netflix because most of their inventory is actually for resale, which makes it easier for them to justify paying higher licensing fees, or leverage lower ones?
It's like Microsoft and their billions of dollars spent on what ultimately ended up being failed ventures (e.g. Zune, Bing, etc..), Amazon can subsidize their streaming business at a loss in order to gain market share. That's a substantial competitive advantage over Netflix as the streaming video market shapes up and licensing agreement costs skyrocket.
Yeah, this really limits Amazon imo. Though they have done a better job of getting on more streaming devices/TVs. They still don't have as much content as Netflix. But hopefully they continue to build and there'll be a nice mix of choices throughout the services.
Yup. The deal is: join Amazon Student, and you get free Prime for 6 months, then $39.99 a year for up to four years. http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info NOTE: you must have a .edu email to sign up.
