Didn't see this up anywhere: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3957144&campaign=rss&source=NBAHeadlines The Phoenix Suns had hoped that if Amare Stoudemire recovered quickly enough from surgery to repair a torn retina, he could return to the team for the playoffs, if it qualified. That hope was dashed Thursday, when the doctor who performed Stoudemire's surgery ruled out any return at all this season -- playoffs included.
I don't mean to sound naive here but couldn't he just wear rec specs and play or am I underestimating the importance of this procedure?
retinal detachment is really serious, someone I know has it, and treatment takes a very very long time and it's very hard treatment as well. you can't really move for 4 weeks(cant move head down at all). they treat it with a laser and that's prior to not being able to move for 4 weeks and they put a bubble in the eye to pressure the retina together, which is really uncomfortable. for this person specifically, if the head is hit hard or whips her head around fast, there's a risk of that person going blind in that eye. so I wonder if amare could ever play again to be honest, I know for sure he will be wearing goggles permanently after this.
the part where they said "partially detached retina" didn't clue you in? lol. this is his second eye injury this season, the guy is in serious trouble.
Amare might as well retire together with T-Mac next yea.... But considering that he is in PHX, he will be back perfectly healthy next year.
The doctors told him to play with the goggles on. Don't know why he ended taking them off and not playing with them. They did warn him.
LOL...I have no idea about eye injuries or anything related to them. I don't know what a retina is. I don't know, I guess eye injuries despite how serious they may be in reality sort of seems like an odd reason to hold a player out the rest of the season. Sort of like "Oh, I got poked in the eye. Wear rec specs" type of thing next time. Little did I know how serious his situation really was.
Hold on... Amare's eye was "damaged," from the 1st eye injury. He was told to wear the goggles. He did, but then took them off eventually. But... he still had some damage. So pretty much he was taking a stupid risk... right?
Arrrrr. Shiver me timbers then matey . Seriously, hope he recovers and continues his career. He's one heck of a player.
