God, he's got the "NBA Ego" in spades, doesn't he??

Wow, the 2 most valuable players in the league on the same team, and losing by 20 at home by getting blown out in the 4th quarter?

Yep, the very definition of MVP.

Yeah, I saw that a while ago and was speechless. I would think most nba players, even those who deserve the award and have big egos, would at least have the tact not to point at themselves.

It's stuff like this that makes it so difficult for me to like Amare. He has great work ethic and I give him props for taking his game to another level this year. I think he's a good basketball player, with the potential to be an all-time great, but damn the guy can be a completely classless sometimes.

That type of ego is what makes many fans dislike players.

Wow....just wow! I used to think Kobe was something... but seems like Amare is running past him in terms of ego-problem. Amare thinks he is the greatest thing in the league. All this regular season success has really gotten to his head. He is proving himself to be one of the most egoistic personalities, with a huge inferiority complex. He has a lot of potential talentwise but I wouldnt be surprised if he self destructs and implodes few years down the road.

Not just fans but players themselves too. If you looked closely in this year All Star game everyone on the East was making sure they didnt let Amare get on the highlight reel. They were playing tough defense on him. To compound the situation, Amare seemed to be trying extra hard to impress everyone. It was comical. I dont think a lot of NBA players like Amare.

it was one game...don't overreact. they are both having very good seasons - one's worthy of mvp discussion, though amare is for sure not gonna win it.

Every player should play like he wants to be MVP
should think he is good enough to be MVP

but .. . hell be it for him to say it

Instead of comparing him to Dream, get the Karla references ready.

As much as I hate Karl Malone, the man was talented and had a successful career...albeit one full of dirty plays, whining to the refs, and lacking in rings.

Amare has a ways to go before anyone can put him on the same level as Karl.

Acting like you beleive something when u obviously don't
i.e. False Modesty is weak and more pathetic
than just saying what you beleive

I know some of us fer some ACT humble
    than to BE HONEST

Amare Stoudemire - "You’re looking at him. "

Oh man. Notice how Dirk doesn't nominate himself. Even if a guy did who the heck would say "You're looking at him." I can't imagine anyone (AI, KG, McGrady, Duncan) aside from Shaq saying that.

Dude, it's a matter of etiquette. You don't go around proclaiming yourself to be the MVP. In another interview with Dan Patrick, he referred to himself as the most underrated player in the league.

The man (kid, really) is full of himself. And when you go around making statements like this, it only reinforces that view. I have the same problem with Shaq always talking about how great he is. Dream never did that. Kareem never did that. Robinson never did that.

And I like Shaq. But there's no question that he's arrogant and full of himself.

Steve Francis plays like he wants the MVP, think he's good enough to be the MVP, and what did that get the Rockets?

I don't mind cockiness. But self-promotion is annoying. Notice how for things like this, actions speak louder than words. Hakeem managed to convey his feelings towards MVP David Robinson in the western conference final in 95 quite well. The same with Jordan against MVPs Barkley and Malone in their finals matchups. Empty boasts are worthless.

I don't want to make excuses for him, but exactly how humble were most of you when you were 20? Now imagine have 4 million dollars (and very good potential for much more) on top of that. We can't all be Yao who is by nature a very humble person, and be glad we have Yao. But I tend to give Amare the benefit of youth indescretion (I'm 2 years older than him and for the most part still do very moronic things every now and then). But if he continues to be like this when he's 30, then let the bash begin and continue.
