I found this small blurb about Amare Stoudemire's article in Maxim--what an idiot!! http://www.azcentral.com/sports/suns/articles/1019sunsnb1019.html Amaré in 'Maxim' Amaré Stoudemire participated in an interview with Indiana's Ron Artest and Detroit's Tayshaun Prince for the November Maxim, due on newsstands next week. "Nothing against LeBron (James), but I do wonder sometimes why nobody ever mentions me when they talk about the game's best young players," Stoudemire told Maxim. "I think because I'm so big and strong and people forget that I'm still only 21 years old." He said Orlando had the best off-season in the league and that San Antonio is the best team in the West, followed by Minnesota and Denver. "Minnesota's problem is they don't have anyone that can guard me," he said. When asked which Suns player can guard Kevin Garnett, Stoudemire said: "Good question." He claimed that he and Shawn Marion form the NBA's best forward duo. Asked whether he was predicting a downtown parade, he said: "We still need a big man." [B/]
Didn't he once call Francis an idiot? The Magic had the worst off-season of any team except for the Lakers or Nets.
LOL! The Magic didn't have a bad off-season at all. They picked up what many considered one of the best backcourts in the league. Yes, even most of you on this board said that before you jumped ship. They picked a high schooler with a lot of potential. That may have been their worst move if Howard doesn't work out but the Magic didn't have a bad off-season at all.
They should've tried to figure out a way to make their players start playing defense. Besides, they could've improved standing pat, just by virtue of having the #1 lottery pick, a possible Grant Hill/Pat Garrity recovery, for a team that was one year removed from the playoffs. Of course, instead the new GM pissed off by far their best player and was forced a trade that netted the team much less than T-Mac's worth.
Can't make chicken salad out of chicken **** They needed to start over. McGrady was sick of having to go out each night with shockingly subpar teammates and threw in the towel. You can't rebuild around that. That's also why Drew Gooden was shipped out - he's an apathetic guy with no work ethic or heart. Weisbrod picked up the passionate core of an annual 40 win team and plugged the holes. The trade was great for both sides. The only dumb thing that came out of Amare's mouth was his diss on KG ("the problem with Minnesota is, they don't have anyone that can guard me"). He had a nice game against him his rookie year, let it go to his head, and I can't wait to see KG punk him. Evan
Memphis, while not going through a complete overhaul, has made changes. Drew Gooden, Bonzi Wells, and James Posey.
Posey was a FA addition, like the Magic signing Turgolu(sp?). Bonzi was a mid-season trade. Are you saying Gooden for Miller is on par with T-Mac for Francis trade?
I'm just saying they made changes. The other thing about Memphis is they were getting better after they made their coaching change. There was hope going into last season. The Magic progressively got worse throughout the season and they begin developing chemistry problems. The two situations are different. Why would you bring the core of a team whose best player has already been complaining about his teammates. And that goes back to the previous season before Weisbrod. There was no chemistry there.
What's so different about them? What chemistry existed in Memphis before Hubie showed up? Are you saying that Gasol and his Memphis teammates were gelling quite well for all his time there? Orlando's situation demanded a new coach, because that team stopped caring when Doc Rivers left. Trading top 5 players in the NBA for the likes of Steve Francis is probably the worst thing a team could've done.
isnt Amare supposed to be a big man? hahaha anyways I think Orlando had the best off season too.. not just the trade but people recovering from injury and the #1 pick in the draft. all of that combined makes for a very busy/active offseason. SF/ Cat / Cato ? they were beating on the East now they get more easy games against the East and I think they will do well beating up on the teams in their division. J
I agree too. And if you go by wins this year vs. wins last year, I think Orando will far and away show the most improvement. In fact, I expect them to go from the cellar to the playoffs. Still, the old adage is true: the team that gets the best player in a trade wins.
