You are surprised they chose Gentry over JVG? Why?

Very interesting choice, for sure. Maybe the Warriors won't be as good next year with out him.

I'm sure a lot of it has to do with what the Warriors have accomplished...Pelicans trying to transfer some of that success over.

    JVG stays in the booth
    Thibodeau gets a year off.

    You're up Denver.

    Bulls - Hoiberg
    Magic - Skiles
    Nuggets - ???(Melvin Hunt?)
    Pelicans - Gentry

I agree, it was a two-horse race and Gentry has a ton going for him, but I figured that whenever JVG would finally accept an interview it would be because he was certain that the job was in the bag.

It certainly isn't a bad choice

I'm glad Thibs didn't get it. I'd hate to see Davis get burned out with him.

JVG had a formal interview? I must have missed that. Been away a lot since Game 5

Working for the hottest team in the NBA helps-- just look at all the former Spurs coaches and front office guys who got hired elsewhere. Right now, GSW is the best team in the NBA and the most popular, too. Every owner probably wants to play that Golden State style and get fans excited.

It's good for fans that JVG stays in the broadcast business, though. If he leaves, we're just gonna get subjected to more Mark Jackson and Jon Barry.

Excellent. Gentry is not a good head coach. The Pelicans will underachieve. And as an added bonus, his departure from the Warriors may hurt that team.

According to a person with knowledge of the Pelicans' thinking, they were drawn to Gentry's ability to teach an up-tempo offensive style while still prioritizing the defensive end.

Despite the widely-held assumption that the Pelicans would consider recently-fired Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau, there was no communication between those two parties.

No one thinks he isn't a good coach.
He just isn't a good HEAD coach.
