I've been thinking alot the last 24 hours about good-seeming people on tv, who you've seen multiple times, that always makes you laugh and is family friendly. Ive been a fan of Alton Brown for a couple years now. His show Good Eats was a big hit IMO. Very funny guy, who is very smart with nutrition and makes complicated terms and nutrition facts easy to understand with his witty sense of humor and teaching aides. And ontop of all else, he is a good cook. We've tried a few of his recipes and they turned out to be big successes. The mac n cheese is awesome! He also did a 4 part series called Feastin' on Asphault. Where he went from the east coast to the west coast, displaying good diners and off-the-freeway restaurants that are hidden treasures that you've heard nothing about. He currently COMMENTATES for that show Iron Chef. How hard can this be!?!?!?! I mean just watching it is mind boggling. Id rather broadcast and commentate any NBA, NFL, MLB of NHL game then to commentate on this show. So difficult. Split second science and history behind each ingredient used. Anyone else a fan of this guy? Ive seen him on Emeril a few times and he always seems like the real deal.
I love both Good Eats and Feasting on Asphalt. Alton's really entertaining and informative, and he rides an SV. (In Good Eats. Apparently BMW helps sponsor Feasting on Asphalt.) What more could you want.
Food Network in general is awesome. Sandra Lee is a major league MILF. I hate that Ham on the Street guy.
He's currenly filming another installment of Feasting on Asphalt, this time going from New Orleans to Minnesota...
I'm a fan, I like how he's willing to break from convention if it makes cooking easier and the food tastier. I also appreciate his MacGyveresque ingenuity at making stuff like taking a cheap hotplate and a flower pot to make a smoker. I never knew he'd been on Emeril, that's gotta be weird. Alton is all about precise measurements and Emeril will keep throwing sh*t in and going bam bam bam for the hell of it; "more gahlic?" Came accross this tribute vid while trying to find a video of Alton on Emeril:
Why would you want to do that!!!????? She is by far the person on the Food Network I can least connect with. Table scapes? And I don't understand the need to start with a mix that basically measures the salt for you only to spend the rest of your time trying to conceal that fact. As for Alton Brown, I love Good Eats, caught a few Feasting on Asphalt and thought they were pretty good. He's a great host for Iron Chef America. I like his nerdy approach and confidence. I am surrounded, profesionally speaking, by foodies who tend to emphasize fine dining so it is a breath of fresh air to see how he is geared more to comfort foods. Of course, there's plenty of other comfort food shows on the Food Network but this one is definately my favorite. If Alton Brown gets you into the kitchen I've got to support him. What Sandra Lee does in the kitchen isn't something I can get all that excited about.
alton brown is the man. love good eats, love feasting on asphalt (and am very pleased to hear it's coming back), and he's an excellent commentator for iron chef america. just something about his approach to cooking and his general demeanor that i find very authentic and palatable.... not to mention fun. i've learned more from his how than any other cooking shows i've watched throughout the years. oh yeah, Food Network gets more play on my tv than just about any other channel.
I like Alton Brown a lot. Good eats is a pretty cool show that gives insight into the why/how of cooking food. IMO, Good Eats has gotten a bit "cheesier" over the years (with his props/"co-stars"/whatnots, but I still watch. Feasting on Asphalt was a decent show. Food Network rules...
Did anyone catch the Kitchen Makeover show he was in? A couple years ago, Food Network did a short series called All-Star Kitchen Makeover. Where people send in video tapes of why they deserve to win the grand prize of having a Food Network star come makeover their kitchen. Alton did one of those shows. SO funny. His personality and his ideas ROCKED. I have it on a video file on my computer if anyone wants it.... I can send it through AIM or if you know of a better way, let me know.
Yeah, Flay is a tool. Pretty obvious he has that type of personality. I forgot to comment on Alton earlier though...he's very entertaining and a great host. Good Eats is an excellent show. I remember reading about him in Wikipedia, and it was pretty interesting. Initially he wasn't a chef early in his career, he did a video for REM, I don't remember. I suggest you guys check it out though. I'm not a 'foodie', but I think one of the most world renowned chefs is known for using gastronomy (heavy application of science in developing recipes I think). I'd like to see Alton hook up w/ the guy for a few episodes.
Bobby Flay is a badass. I would love to be present at one of his and Emeril's all night coke and hooker binges.
