I want to put together a tourney style (like Mannys) Battle of the Bands that would include mostly bands that were not on the original list (except perhaps a couple that never stood a chance like the Replacements and Smiths). The list would not be exclusively alternative as bands like Montrose, The Byrds and Roxy Music deserve to be recognised.

I am posting this now so those of you who to wish can have a chance to voice an opinion on what bands you would like to see included.

I thought my idea for a tourney would be the next tourney after Manny's original Battle thread, but I guess that'll have to wait.

    311
    Audioslave
    Jet
    Velvet Revolver
    Bush
    Chevelle
    System of A Down
Stone Temple Pilots again - they didn't get enough respect the first time around with the seeding.

could we possibly allow "solo" acts in this one too?

prince had the revolution / npg. springsteen had the east street band. willie nelson has had the same band, down to the harmonica player, for the better part of 30 years now.

    pixies
    janes addiction
    fugazi
    crosby, stills, nash AND YOUNG
    prince and the revolution
    willie nelson and family
    cream
    talking heads
    the misfits (danzig era only)
    iggy and the stooges
    the flaming lips
    wilco
    neil young and crazy horse
    living color

Thanks for the quick and good suggestions guys. I had many of these bands on my initial list. Almost all of Jo Mamas'; even Fugazi ;)

I am reluctant to add the solo artists w/band as there are already so many on the list. Perhaps we should do a solo artist tourney? I am also having second thoughts about allowing bands who were in the initial tourney as I don't want this to turn into a 'second chance tourney'. I dunno, but am counting on Manny to help me out with putting this together

I would like to see this kept to bands which have put out at least three to four releases. Am also aiming to get started by Friday, so get in your suggestions asap.

    TIA
    Win

Don't really have any suggestions, but when you do make the bracket i'm down for playing. Music threads are great imo.

    Win,

Got your message. I guess I can share this with the board, but I told you this in my response back to you.

I would love running this tournament for you but right now is probably the busiest I have been with school and work. Mid-May will be a lot better for me as school will be over (forever) and work will probably slow down some, too.

I'll participate as I am familiar with most of the artists listed, but I can't run it now. Sorry.:(

Any alternative tournament that doesn't have the Velvet Underground in it isn't legit.

Any Alternative tournament that does have Linkin Park(however they spell their name) is also not legit.

Maybe Cake could be a higher seed in this tournament. :D

...and of course, the man that has defined a genre of music for a quarter century, Weird Al Yankovic...
