Probably because he'd get one shot attempt on team USA(I didn't check, he isn't like Canadian or something right?) On like some random ass fiba team? He'd probably average 20+.
Looks like Sengun took ten jumpers in that last game, which I don't think I've ever seen him do before. That included a number of stepback and fadeaways middies. Getting more comfortable taking shots from range is hopefully a good sign, although Ukraine left him wide open on his threes so it's not like defenses respect his range yet. Sengun also looked very active defensively. You can't swat a three pointer like that or leap crosscourt for a steal without decent athleticism. Defense is far more about game sense than it is about physical ability (hence why Battier, the Chuckwagon, and Tucker are some of the best defenders we've ever had), but at least Sengun's got some physical tools. If he doesn't improve on that end under Udoka next season it would be terribly disappointing.
Man, that fall away mid-range out of the high post....That's the most exciting thing for me. I've said all along he doesn't even need to be a 3pt shooter, just needs range outside of the post to put doubt in the defender's mind. If he can extend that range another 3-5 ft, game over for anybody trying to stop him. Also great seeing that NBA training starting to really emerge, like most European players I expected a jump athletically, a lot of US fans don't realise just how different the type of sports training is in most other countries for youth sports. It's why most Euro players look a lot less athletic coming in, and I'm soooo happy Alpe's obviously one of the guys where getting access to those kind of facilities closes the gap as they develop (Giannis obviously being the most extreme example.) With how good Green's looking as well? Man why is it so far away until the season starts?! I'm so ****ing pumped to see our kids mature and have their breakout year.
The talent level on these FIBA Europe national teams is high. I'd put it almost but not quite at the level of EuroLeague, which isn't that far behind the NBA these days on talent. I would definitely put it above NBA Summer League. There are a lot more serious, seasoned professionals on these teams. Summer League is all rookies and second-year players and most of those guys are undrafted.
Hard not to be excited about this young dude, in this offseason, it seems he has: -added the Dirk -much smoother release on his jumper and improved his FT shooting -more muscular and athletic -improved handle -much better footwork on defense, so his feet are catching up with his fast hands -can have a full conversation in English What's not to like?
We all know that seeing a guy standing next to some other guys is the most accurate way to be sure how tall he is. And more importantly, we all know that being a legit 7-footer is an absolute necessity for being a star center in the NBA. This is why I've never for one second believed that Sengun can ever be a franchise player.
We also know that when someone says they grew up to be 6 11, they actually have not. Yesterday, I turned on rocketswatch to watch the second half and in a game that went pretty well for Sengun, they were constantly talking about how he can't be 6 11, what the twitter responses from Turkish fans were etc. Roosh presenting himself as a defender of objective journalism . Even if Sengun is 6 8, your job is to cover basketball. Just say he looks 6 10 to you and move on. Talk basketball.
He's extremely opinionated and funny thing is that for such an opinionated guy you would expect him to be able to defend his position properly on whatever that is being argued but he comes up with his lawyer jargon to shut you up rather than defending his position and meanwhile looks like total clown. The guy thinks that "It's my page shut the f. up" is sth you should use to defeat your opponent. Even a disabled kid with 33 chromosomes knows that when you tweet something out ppl will challange your opinion if you are such a pussie don't touch controversial subjects. It's like insulting some certain ethnicity and not expecting any backlash from that ethnicity. By saying he's 6'9-6'10 you are inadvertently calling Tari, Sengun and the organization liars. Ppl will challenge your opinion. Height of a queen bee is about 1 inch do these people actually think they can detect a flying bee in arena? Like what is this bs? For 20 years everyone thought Lebron was 6'10 it turns out he was 6'9 nobody knows if Durant is 7'0 or 6'11 but they somehow caught Sengun red handed? Yeah 6'10 or 6'11 it doesn't really matter besides i think 6'10's are 6'9.5's and 6'11's are 6'10.5's. They 100% round them up. Another funny thing is that they actually think that 1 extra inch would make him a passable defender. Good defenders are good defenders because they are born with it not because they are 1 inch taller than the guys they are guarding. Sengun looked quicker if can carry that to NBA that will make him passable defender not that 1 inch.
There is usually very little objectivity among fans. Look at some of the comments in the threads on this forum and you can see that. Sadly, objective journalism, at least in this country, probably died long ago - now it's about getting clicks, engagement, etc. Most of the people on #rocketstwitter are just fans going beyond what normal fans do and posting their thoughts online, providing something the regular media doesn't, etc. They're not really journalists per se. I read some of the articles that are posted online as "journalism" nowadays and think to myself "I could write this trash, and I know I'm not a journalist".
I have to admire the commitment of some of the regulars on Rocketswatch, not sure how they hold a regular job in addition to that level of fandom. At least posting here is asynchronous, but during the season, that's literally hours on end, full blast.
Turkey's semifinal against Sweden doesn't pose any size challenges. If Turkey continues to shoot the ball as they have, they are on a collision course with Croatia. Both countries have a lot on the line. The winner goes to the Paris Olympic Games. That's a team with a true big--LA Clipper, Ivica Zubac, who has looked dominant in this tournament (and, to be honest, bored at times). Croatia also has Dario Saric, who always looks better in the international game. Curious to see the matchups. My memory was that Sengun hadn't done all that well against Zubac, so I went and checked the NBA's head-to-head stats. They suggest Zubac's among Sengun's worst matchups in the entire league. The key numbers are below: About 76 NBA matchup minutes between Sengun and Zubac for 2022-23 20 points scored (9-13 from the field) by Sengun with two total assists 43 points surrendered by Sengun (19-31 from the field) with 9 assists for Zubac 1 Foul drawn by Sengun That's the most points any player has scored on Sengun in an individual matchup (2022-23). Just in case you're wondering, Jokic scored 33 in 49 minutes. It is interesting because Sengun averaged almost 18 ppg against the Clippers (the headliner being a 26 pt 13 reb game on 11-2-22, but he did foul out). The stats suggest he wasn't productive in matchups against Zubac. That guy is a wall and a veteran defender. I love that Sengun has had this summer to sharpen his game against teams that are game-planning against him. He's leading in the early voting for tournament MVP.
If you enjoy Turkish with a little history mixed in, try watching this series (over 400 episodes)... Diriliş: Ertuğrul Netflix pulled it earlier this year, but it was a really interesting show. YouTube may have some of the seasons.
