http://rotoworld.com/content/playernews.aspx?sport=NBA Rotoworld sources are relaying that Detroit radio station 1270 AM reported Wednesday that the Lakers and Pistons had a "done deal" as of 6:45 PM on Tuesday that would have sent Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, Amir Johnson and a first-round pick to the Lakers for Kobe Bryant. Both teams had reportedly agreed to the deal, but Bryant alledgedly vetoed it with his no-trade clause, apparently not wanting to go to a depleted Detroit team. It will be interesting to see how the Pistons' players mentioned in the deal react to this news.
Nobody is going to trade for Kobe now, its not worth risking their team morale. This is ridiculous. If anyone gets a no trade clause in the future that GM should be hung or stoned.
Kobe is retraded you still have rasheed walace , billups , mcdysee and a pretty solid bench. AND your in the EAST you get to beatup on the likes of the wizards and even your old buddy shaq. If this story has any legs kobe is just plain stupid. If lebron james and his gang of cleavland scrubs can make it to the finals from east just think of what kobe , rasheed and billups could do.
I would take Lakers over Pistons after that trade. He has more around him now than he would there. LAKERS Derek Fisher Rip Hamilton Tayshaun Prince Lamar Odom Andrew Bynum Problems in the post, but if Andrew Bynum became anything then this team would outplay a Detroit with Billups, Kobe and Rasheed.
Kobe would still have a top-tier PG in Billups and a legitimate big man in Rasheed. Plus Detroit has been a very successful franchise. He is a moron.
Kobe wants a Championship NOW. I suppose he figures he will play the season out if the Lakers won't trade him to a loaded team for peanuts. Worst case scenario, he plays another 2 years with LA, continues to be the best player in the league and walks away from the Lakers after next season and signs with a contender on the cheap. At some point, LA is going to have to let him go for a lot less than he is worth but nobody in that organization wants to do that just yet. I think somebody is going to look at their team this season, realize they are a Kobe away from contending and pull the trigger on a deal that everyone can live with but nobody is ecstatic about. No way the Lakers come out of this without getting raped. It's just a matter of how badly it is done to them.
A no-win situation for everyone. Kobe is incredibly stupid if this is true though. If this isn't good enough, there will never be a good enough situation. What does he expect? Do the math, you're a superstar player who will be traded for talent as close as possible. Does he expect the Spurs to trade their 12th man for him and expect the Lakers to approve?
From everything I hear, Kobe's a smart person. So why is he making such stupid decisions? What does he want anyway? If he wants a ring badly, then he just needs to play out his contract, and go sign a MLE with a playoff contender to make them a mortal lock for the NBA championship. If he wants money or fame.... he just needs to shut and play, because he has both. Dude can't do anything wrong. If they win, it's because he led them. If they lose, people will blame his supporting cast. The guy pretty much never gets blamed for anything, while making insane money. If he wants winning, fame, AND money, then why in the world did he run Shaq out of town?????
Kobe should demand to be traded to a team with a dominant center. That would make me laugh uproariously.
Kobe would sign for the MLE on his next contract so he would be able to join a contender? Being on a Championship team has already happened for him, so why would he take a significant paycut on his next contract?
I used to agree with you. I used to think that Kobe was a smart guy, but judging from this whole ordeal he is maybe not so bright, at least clearly capable of serious errors in judgment. He has to have changed his mind on some part of being traded versus staying, maybe more than once since the Bynum video first hit. If he just wanted to be traded, he could have not shown up and resisted the idea of returning a little more. I think he did want out, and that this is probably the third season in a row he has wanted out and finally, his frustration began manifesting itself in various ways: increasing selfish play, videos berating teammates. But his problem was a conflict in his own interests: he wanted to remain "professional" and "mature" in the eyes of NBA opinion more so than he wanted traded. Moreover, he cares more about being Kobe at the end of the day, of being the undisputed best playmaker/scorer/leader in the game today than he does about winning a championship. Thus instead of following his demands all the way through and skip out like AI and risk looking selfish/immature/spoiled, he remained aloof of the whole ordeal in front of cameras mostly because he didn't want it to distract from his being KOBE when playing basketball. On the court he maintains that competitive edge and focus because no matter what happens to him off the court, Kobe knows at the very least he can continue being the beast in the bright LA lights and feeling great about himself until he has more control over where he ends up. He loves himself, he loves the comparisons to Jordan, he loves his rings. He is a selfish person. He is a boob of a person, but I would love him on my team.
Well if he's serious about going to a team that's not stripped of talent that's basically what he's got to do. You're right though it's probably unlikely.
I'm watching bits and pieces of this game on tvants and the Warriors are pounding the Pistons. It's 57-37 with 8 mins left in the 2nd quarter. BD is destroying them. Maybe the Pistons are distracted.
Kobe likes to be in control. No trade clause is as good a tool as it gets to exercise control. He is playing everyone...The Lakers organization, as well as every other NBA team and its players out there. This is quiet amusing actually.
Like I said before, Kobe is not going to be traded. I'll still with it until I see Kobe wearing another uniform.
