Salary of injured Sacramento PF, Chris Webber: 12,750,000.00

Salary of the "reliable" Mike Bibby: 4,174,898.00

    Salary of Jason Williams: 2,554,072.00

The look on No-Trick Saddleman's face as Jason Williams drained a three pointer: Priceless.

I like how the Memphis paper fails to mention he scored his 19 points on 24 field goals

lol! I know. I heard he had a good game, then looked at the numbers... the guy was 7-23 shooting and 3-10 on 3 pointers. He only played 33 mins. in the game.

Now if he could just play only 4th quarters of games against the Kings from here on out to the end of his career....he might be as good as Mike Bibby.

Memphis is really tearing up the Western Conference too.....

Oh well, Jason Williams is fun to watch, and should put butts in the seats. He is truly a wizard with the ball.

He can make it disapper out of bounds or throw up a shot that comes nowhere close to where everyone is looking (the hoop) with the best of them. JASON WILLIAMS IS IN THE BOTTOM THREE STARTING PGS IN THE NBA!!!

Why does williams get such a bad rap ? I'm not really a fan but I have him on a fantasy team and he's not too bad.I think he is avg about 15 pts 9 ast and 3 to..... When people talk about him it seems he is held to a higher standard for some reason ? Man before Francis came along we would have loved to have a pg with his #'s. He will no doubt get better...isn't this like only his 3rd or 4th year ?

I think a major reason people dislike Williams is due to all of the press he got his rookie year. He was being talked about like the next Pistol Pete. Whenever someone gets a lot of hype and doesn't live up to it, people will bash him...

    He's better than that.

People will criticize, but critics of Jason Williams' take the ugliness to another level -- a level apparently devoid of clever retort.

Fans of Jason Williams', of which there are maybe one or two on this BBS, can appreciate watching him mature as a player -- making great plays AND learning from mistakes. That is, after all, part of the growing process.

Jacking up thirty foot three pointers on a two on one fast break will do that to a point guard.

Credit that lack of insight to NBA.com not to the Commercial Appeal. And for your general information, the Commercial Appeal is not some green newspaper so giddy to cover a major sports team that it distorts facts, as your post suggests. Understand, the Appeal has more history and more prestige than the Chronicle will ever have in life. Get it right eyeroller!

    Hydra,
I am not saying anything about Williams in terms of where he ranks as a point guard. I am not even a fan of his, but he's fun to watch.

He may not be the smartest player in the world, and he may not be a top 10 or 15 point guard, but come on, the kid can do amazing things with the ball. His ballhandling skills are hard to match in terms of flash and glitz.

    Williams:

    14.1 ppg, 8.2 apg, 2.17 a/to ratio, 36% fg, 33% 3pt, 67% ft, 33 min

    Bibby:

    15.6 ppg, 4.6 apg, 2.35 a/to, 46% fg, 32% 3pt, 82% ft, 34 min

To this point, this has been Williams's best season of his career, imo.
To this point, this has been Bibby's worst season of his career, imo.

For the life of me, I cannot understand why Bibby has such low assists on a good shooting team (Peja should be an automatic assist). In this way, Sac is similar to Indy...and Tinsley is getting inflated ass. numbers.

On the other side, Williams is thriving because there is no pressure, and he can just run around and do what he does with little discipline, as far as plays go.

Except for the assists, Bibby is slightly outperforming Williams.

So, Williams is playing well and is probably turning his carreer around, but it still seems Bibby is better. Only time will tell.

What is the point of showing salaries? Is Williams better than Webber, too? Williams's salary will go up next season, anyway...when he will not be such a bargain.

Hydra, I think you are exaggerating in regards to Williams's ranking.

Statistical, perhaps, but I think that's the product of being on an much better team. Actually, I think Bibby's playing pretty well, though his assists are down. Maybe when Webber comes back Bibby will be back around the 8-9 APG range.

I would normally say that, but generally scoring goes down on a better team. Bibby's is pretty high, higher than at times past. He is also shooting better than he sometimes can. I say that he is playing poorly not for these reasons, but because of the assists factor. While it is true that Webber could boost his #'s, he is still surrounded by multiple offensive weapons - most of whom are jump shooting types.

Of course, there are these factors:

Bibby still has a great a/to ration, despite having so few assists, meaning he is stil "steady" and does not make mistakes.

Early on Divac was playing wonderfully and the offense was going through him - he was averaging high assist #'s...which have since fallen (although he is still #1 on the team). Now that he has cooled off, perhaps Bibby's numbers will increase.

In any event, my point was that even when Bibby is slightly "off" he still seems to be better than Williams, confirming the benefit of the trade for Sacto.

Blah, blah, blah...no kidding, I was simply pointing out the fact that he shot poorly as usual. I could give a crap less about who has a lack of insight and Commercial Appeal.
