What makes some people more susceptible to allegiance than others. For example... The majority of posters here have a strong allegiance to the Houston Rockets. They don't just catch the average game, they watch them all. And go on an Internet message board to talk about the Rockets. And... People who will get into tremendous arguments for 'their' band. Or a favorite movie or TV show. What makes people like to have things that they can call their favorites and be die-hard about them. Thoughts?
I think it has to do with the bond formed between the two. The early 90's for the Rockets was just so incredible. Just watching a team grow and excel like that was just amazing, especially the second year when everyone gave up on them..... It's like a part of your family, it was a big part of my young adulthood. Same thing for me with the 1985 Bears. I probably love the Bears more than the Rockets, if that's possible. They were the first sport I ever remember watching, the first team, the first championship, the first refrigerator, the first Sweetness. Movies - it is some sort of chemical bond, like an addiction or something. When I watch favorite movies/shows/etc. I enjoy it (endorphines released) and it's kinda habit forming.
