I'm just curious who would you put on the list. I mean, lately, it seems after a so-called foul, most players would stand there and stare at the ref rather than go back and play defense. It cracked me up when I saw Scott Williams in Game 1 or 2 of the Eastern Conf. Finals just slapping his wrists or whining after every shot attempt. He must have thought he was ordained by Jordan or something Even Kobe and Iverson has ante up the whine-o-meter during the Finals even though it's bad refereeing. ------------------
Cuttino and Steve would be my nominees. ------------------ "Light travels faster than sound, so some people appear to be bright until you hear them speak." -- Brian Williams (now Bison Dele) commenting on Isiah Thomas.
BGM, Weren't you the one complaining about the officials when it looked like the Lakers might lose this game? Mobley would get the MOST votes in my book. Sam Cassell was rising, especially in this playoffs...Allen Iverson definitely--the guy looks like he's about to cry after EVERY play. ------------------ Jazzkiller
Mobley during one Clippers game (complaining to the ref while his man runs down to court for an uncontested dunk) exemplifies the All Whine Team. ------------------
Smokey, I saw Steve do the same thing in a game against the Mavs here in Dallas. I couldn't believe it. Fine, you didn't get your 2 points because of a foul. But on top of that you're going to compound it by giving up another 2 while you whine to officials? ------------------ "Light travels faster than sound, so some people appear to be bright until you hear them speak." -- Brian Williams (now Bison Dele) commenting on Isiah Thomas.
Mobley during one Clippers game (complaining to the ref while his man runs down to court for an uncontested dunk) exemplifies the All Whine Team. Especially since we've been over that play about 100 times, and that was not Cuttino's man that broke away for the slam. It was Eric Piakowski I believe, and as the two guard he was Steve's responsiblity. (we had Mooch at the point, Steve at the 2, and Cat at the 3 like we usually do) If Cuttino was the one on this team that gets noted for whining, why is it that he doesn't have the 2nd most T's in the league? There is a difference between whining to the officials and working the officials to get calls later. If you watch Cuttino, he is talking to them about how the plays go, so that by the end of the game the call may go in favor of the Rockets. That is smart basketball, and if you consider it whining, then I'll take it on my team anyday. ------------------ Draftsource.net-- the premier source for draft info. Wrong Cat. Cuttino shot a fadeaway at the end of the game near the top of the key and it was his responsibility to get back. The other players were getting into position for an offensive rebound, because if he missed and they didn't get the ball, the game was over. Steve and Cat would definitely have to be my nominees for the all whine team. I really hope they learn to shutup next year. It's really no wonder that they're whiners though considering that Sammy and Van Exel are good friends with them. ------------------
Does it matter whether Mobley was playing the 2 or 3? Instead of whining, Mobes could have helped Steve defensively. I'll take a 5 on 5 over a 5 on 4 any day. ------------------
Perhaps Cuttino should've gotten back in the situation to prevent the fast break, but it's amazing that Steve let his man leak out and the only criticism is for Mobley not helping. He wouldn't need to if Steve had just payed attention. If we posted this thread in the Rockets forum, it would be totally astounding the number of people who would reply by saying Mobley was the biggest whiner in the league... and make no mention of Steve whatsoever, the player with the 2nd most T's in the NBA only to Rasheed Wallace. If you consider what Mobley does whining, that's fine... just don't give me this garbage that Cuttino does it and Steve doesn't. Take off the rose colored glasses some of you look at Steve through and try and look at it objectively. ------------------ Draftsource.net-- the premier source for draft info. Try to wake up and realize the man who dunked on that last play was Piatkowski, who was Mobley's man. You are the one who needs to look at things objectively and realize that it was a dumbass play by Mobes no matter how you look at it. I would criticize anybody who made that play. ------------------
My top 2 no question are Iverson & Cuttino Mobley. You guys say Francis is an obvious choice because of his technicals, but how many of those technicals WEREN'T because he either hung on the rim, slapped the backboard, or celebrated eccessively (in the eyes of the refs). Mobley cries to the ref, stares down the ref, jumps up & down screaming ... these things are not posturing for calls down the stretch. In fact, they do the exact opposite. It's crying wolf. If Mobley's crying that he gets fouled every play, he's less likely to get the call when there's actually a foul. ------------------ Founding Father of the Refs Suck Club
I can't believe the b****es from Utah haven't been mentioned yet. All they do, including the coach, is whine after every call, whether it goes their way or not. But I didn't have to tell you that did I? ------------------ www.swirve.com "Pre-born, you're fine, pre-school, you're f*****."-George Carlin
It is never the responsibility of the shooter to get back on defense to prevent transition layups. Basketball 101. They teach you that in junior high.
Whenever I see Bill Walton I always remember the Sports Illustrated video with the referee yelling back... "Stop crying you Big Baby!" ------------------
Freak, I know that's basketball 101, but they were not in a normal set. EVERYBODY was in position to get the offensive rebound. The point guard, Moochie, never was getting back at the end of the game because he was crashing the boards which was one of the only reasons the Rockets were in the game. If it were on a normal play you would be right, but it wasnt. ------------------
Ironically, Piatkowski was on Moochie. Therefore it wasn't Cat or Steve's fault but rather Moochie's fault. Can't believe I never saw that before. ------------------
Tacoma, Piakowtski was playing the 2 guard for the Clippers. We went with our typical 4th quarter lineup of Moochie, Steve, and Cuttino from the 1-3 spots that game. In most all cases, it's Steve's responsibility to cover the 2 guards... Also, the objective bit was not a reference to you, but to the posters in this thread who said things to the effect that Mobley was the worst in the league, yet failed to even mention Steve in the same post. ------------------ Draftsource.net-- the premier source for draft info. My apologies Cat, and I realize in most cases that it would be Steve's job to cover the 2 at that point in the game, but it was Cuttino's responsibility in this instance. Piatkowski was Cat's man, after Cuttino shot the ball he leaked out and got the easy dunk. Every other player was getting into position to grab the board if he missed, because the game was over if they didn't get the ball. It's funny looking back at that game because Moochie got like 3 offensive boards that kept us in the game. Just saw that last play again, and the funny thing is that it wasn't Cuttino or Steve's fault. It was Mooch's fault! He was at the top of the key and had no chance of getting an offensive board but still went towards the basket when he could've gotten back. ------------------ [This message has been edited by tacoma park legend (edited June 11, 2001).]
