On various boards I frequently see comments about Ming's inability to play in the post. He can't take the more physical NBA, he can't post up, all he wants to do is jack shots up from the perimeter. My question is, is it that he CAN'T post up or bang with the big guys or that he's been trained by Chinese basketball to NOT post up or bang around in the paint? I think the 2nd option seems to be the scenario. The fact is that no one really knows how Ming will react to playing in the NBA. Obviously at first he'll play the type of basketball he's been playing in China, but does that mean he can't learn how to be an NBA big man? People make this guy out to be a twig who has no learning curve, but the he's really 280+ pounds. He's bigger than most big men in the NBA right now and he can still develop. The problem doesn't seem to be whether or not he CAN bang, but how quickly we can teach him to play like the big guy he already is!
Exactly!!! Once he is here and he gets banged up a little, he will have to learn to work the post. I remember how Hakeem started at first he would get mad and use that to play harder and harder and eventually he became smarter player and started to use his quickness to be the best out there. Ming is a smart guy and not just a brut, I cann see him using his head to use his advantage tobe the best in the future.
No post up BS. Take a look at the first video that I posted ("MIng CBA video") before and judge by yourself if he post up or not.
My prediction is he won't have any success in the post like Griffin and insted will run plays similar to the ones they ran for Jason Collier. I think is gonna take some time but worth the risk.
How stupid do you think the Chinese are? Is this the conversation you imagine... Hey Chang, we have this guy who is about as tall as the basket, where should we place him? I don't Yang, how about as far from the hoop as is possible. Hey, that sounds smart, let's do it.
