1996!! i went to the game last night, and when i went in 96, kenny was the only one there, along with recasner (why didnt he stay) chilly pete, and others,on the injured list were: hakeem, sam, elie, drexler, horry
this season is going like the one that earned us yao. steve was injured, cato and mo were injured, and shandon anderson was out too...not that that's a great line-up but we won 45 games the season before with them. we were starting pig miller, matt bullard, walt williams, cat mobely, and bryce drew i think. anyway the silver lining is allways there in sports. if you have a bad year you are rewarded with a good pick.
Thinnk how quickly things can be turned around. Look at the Clippers-Dunleavy is doing awesome once he got some talent.... I just hate that Yao and Tracy are getting another year older....
The real problem is that most of these guys won't be back until a month or so from now, with the biggest piece (Yao that is) not making it back until at least 2 months from now until he recovers from the surgery/infection. What does that mean for us as a team and our chances to make the playoffs? As things stand now, we're already in a hole with 5 games under .500 and already not in a playoff picture. With the current lineup, we will be lucky to play .200 ball, let alone .500 However, let's naively assume that the Rockets can go .500 until the end of January (say that will be roughly the time Yao can come back). That will still leave us in a hole with less than three months of basketball to play through. By then, it's a good bet that most other Western Conf teams will have run away with the top eight spots. I don't want to be a 'doom and gloom' type of guy, but looking at our situation from all angles, I can't be optimistic about this season no matter how you look at it. IMO, we'll be playing with the worst lineup in the league for at least 2-3 weeks more, by which time we'll have likely dug ourselves a deeper hole (may be 10 games below .500 or something like that).
I agree. you have to look at the bright side. head will also be a year older, Skip and Swift(maybe) will have a year with Jeff. almost all the upper aged players will be off the books.
That's the key right there, what you just said. How we rebuild the backcourt for next season is going to be the single biggest determinant of whether or not we play like an elite team well into the next 2-3 seasons (next to health, of course).
The "tank the season" idea looks better by the days. I say sit TMac. He is hurt. You can tell he's about 70% or worse. Why not let him fully recover. And hope that we'll win the lottery again. And while we are at it, trade Swift to a lotto bound team for some scrub and draft picks. We're gonna get some real good young talents next year.
exaclty. resting tmac wont make us lose any more games. the way things are going we will lose every game until we get a couple of our guys back anyway.
Personally - I'd rather play the Spurs in the first round. Draft picks are a gamble in themselves. Luther was not high pick and Stromile was. we'll see what happens though. Maybe we can go on a tear when everyone's healthy and sneak into the playoffs at #8. If we're healthy during playoff time - we can be very dangerous. If we have to play the Spurs in round one then so be it - we would have to play them in a later round anyways if we are to win it all.
Rudy Gay vs Adam Morrison vs LaMarcus Aldridge. Hmm.... Not that I'm thinking about tanking but, Hmm....
95 rockets were plagued by injuries but they got into the sixth seed. I dont need to go into all the amazing details, it was an impossible road but we somehow found a way to win that title. BELIEVE.
aldridge is going to be great at the next level and would be perfect for our team. he is long and he has great hands and touch around the basket. he is a perfect compliment for yao since he won't dominate the ball. gay would be a bad name to have with head already on the team.
i was at a game (my only rockets game attendance) where mobley, francis and olajuwon were out. cato was the star that night. pretty sad.
