If J-Kidd does indeed sign with San Antonio, does anyone think that Steve has a shot at being selected as an All Star starter ahead of Kidd in the West.

What do you think Steve has to do to enhance his chances of being voted in as a starter?

Would coaches vote him in as a reserve?

Steve Francis better start sucking up to the coaches in the west if Jason Kidd goes to San Antonio.. I thought about that also:confused:

I'm not worried about Kidd. I'm worried since GP is back in the west. I'll take All-Star GP over Kidd any day. Either way tough competition for Franchise.

There's a chance he won't make the team next year period with Kidd, Kobe, Payton, Marbury, Nash, Finley, and Ray Allen allready playing in the West. That's not to mention players like Wally, Arenas, and Andre Miller who may prove they deserve to play in the game. The West is absolutely loaded with talent this year.

Why does the west have the best guards now? First we had the best fowards. Then centers. Now guards. We don't need the NBDL, that's what the East is for!

Well if steve and crank his game up a notch. Give us a VERY STRONG winning record. Show that he can play a great point and assist, rebound, score and make sure ming and the rest of his team mates are happy and are playing at another level then he will get his vote. I hope he does get voted but i only want him on that team if he deserves it.

Steve will be in the allstar game because it's FAN voting.. Francis is a more popular player with today's youth than kidd or payton. He goes for highlights and is all about the flash.. which is perfect for the all star game

Steve Francis will be the starting Point Guard for the West, because under JVG, Francis is never going to play as he did last season! I expect a major turn arround in his mind set, in regards to the way he plays,he will play more like last seasons All Star Game.
This coming season, Francis will make his team better,he will run plays and will involve everyone in the 'Team Game'.
Not only will Steve be known by the Video Highlites, but also by the quality of his team leadership.

In all honesty, Francis shouldn't have made the all stars either he's played, but he's a fan favorite. I know he's a good player, but the 1st yr he started, Payton was leading the league in asst in Seattle. Last yr Marbury,Nash, and Payton were having better yr than Francis but the fans voted him in. Its not to say he isn't a all star quality talent, I'm just saying that his 2 all star appearences weren't deserving kinda like Ming's. I relate it to when AC green was voted in ahead of Karl Malone in 88.

I thought that too. Isn't there a rule in the league that bans 4 all-stars in your lineup?

Well I hate fan voting, and either you do or don't. But I agree with leebigezee, but Kidd's flashy enough to pierce through what a point guard should do. In S.A. he'd have a better cast to show off with too.

Factor in we become an incredibly better team if Steve's ppg scoring average goes down 5 pts and Yao's goes up by the same margin. Teams had to respect Yao last season, they had no automatic reason to fear him. The dynamics will be altered drastically when the fear is there.

I don't think being an all-star has been an accurate measuring stick since fans began voting. But then again I don't think being the 8th or even the 6th seed in the West last year would have put us on a quicker path to be a contender for the championship.

To answer your question Steve's acrobatics coupled with Yao's improvement (and noteriety) will be enough for him to get the nod. Kidd, if he cares, will puke.

If you remember, Iverson was voted in over Kidd last year, so Kidd's definitely not invincible to the fan's voting. As long as the Rockets play good next year, I think Steve will have a good chance at starting.

I was just hoping Lebron wouldn't get voted into the West, cause you know it would be him and Kobe starting EVERY YEAR from now on!:p

    Thank you...and RHU525.

Steve Francis...Kobe Bryant will still be a favorite....Jason Kidd wasn't even voted in this year against Allen Iverson and Tracy McGrady. I think Steve is just as popular and liked by the fans as AI and TMac...not Kobe though. Ray Allen?!? Who's going to vote for him besides Seattle fans? Andre Miller...uhh...he's a good player, but not many fans like him. Stephon Marbury...maybe, but he doesn't dunk.

Nash and Finley are both good players...but nobody but Mavericks fans and Canadians and maybe some people who admire Finley vote for them.

    Steve is a crowd favorite!

I guarantee he will be an All Star! Maybe not a starter though.

Yao Ming will be starting. :)

Well, since Kidd's staying in New Jersey, I guess Steve's only real competition might come from Stephon Marbury! But a lot of fans don't really like Marbury's attitude, so I guess as long as Steve plays well he'll start again!:D

He's been voted as the starter the past two seasons. Why would a change in his play affect the voting in a positive way??

Oh yeah, that gets you voted a starter.

    Kidd's in the East
Payton is no threat b/c Steve was still voted in when Gluv was on the Sonics
    Fans don't like Steph Marbury
No little guy dunks like Franchise.
