It's nice to see republicans finally admit what some of us have been saying for years.

Iraq war judged a mistake by today's White House hopefuls

WASHINGTON (AP) — A dozen years later, American politics has reached a rough consensus about the Iraq War: It was a mistake.

Politicians hoping to be president rarely run ahead of public opinion. So it's a revealing moment when the major contenders for president in both parties find it best to say that 4,491 Americans and countless Iraqis lost their lives in a war that shouldn't have been waged.

Yet every single one of them will plunge us into a new ME conflict the first excuse they have.

Let's stay on topic Mr C.

Mr Obama has not started one war of aggression.

It is telling that every major republican presidential hopeful is now running on the premise that the Iraq war was a mistake. That is amazing considering the last ten years. How do we as a country look at families that have lost loved ones for a lie in the face? America has collectively givien the war a thumbs down. Even republicans.

Now if only we could convince a President that the last administration should be brought up on criminal war charges.

I always think of throwing gasoline on a fire. The whole problem in the Middle East was already born long before that time. However, we absolutely intensified it and made it much more volatile than it would be had we not gone into Iraq.

If this were to happen I can't even imagine how much worse it would make the already hyperpartisan political atmosphere that we live under in this country.

Senate Democratic votes for the Iraq War

If you remember that day, it was a day of speeches. And at least out among the Littles, the final count wasn’t known until the roll was called. Here are your brave warrior Dems, those who voted Yes, covered in testosterone (or confusion) and glory. I’ve highlighted a few names to note:

    YEAs — 77
    Bayh (D-IN)
    Biden (D-DE)
    Breaux (D-LA)
    Cantwell (D-WA)
    Carnahan (D-MO)
    Carper (D-DE)
    Cleland (D-GA)
    Clinton (D-NY)
    Daschle (D-SD)
    Dodd (D-CT)
    Dorgan (D-ND)
    Edwards (D-NC)
    Feinstein (D-CA)
    Harkin (D-IA)
    Hollings (D-SC)
    Johnson (D-SD)
    Kerry (D-MA)
    Kohl (D-WI)
    Landrieu (D-LA)
    Lieberman (D-CT)
    Lincoln (D-AR)
    Miller (D-GA)
    Nelson (D-FL)
    Nelson (D-NE)
    Reid (D-NV)
    Rockefeller (D-WV)
    Schumer (D-NY)
    Torricelli (D-NJ)

Its hilarious that you think making a decision based on a lie someone told is somehow a knock on that person and not on the liar.

Yawn, the "dems did it too" meme is predictable and boring.

All of those dems have renounced and apologized for their war vote years ago.

Nice to see republicans finally catching up.

But again it's amazing that we've come to this point, that to gain the majority of republican votes, candidates must repudiate a war they supported for years.

What is wrong with admitting a mistake? People like mc mark who want to use that for "gotcha" games are the actual problem. That will only prevent people from admitting that they were wrong. There are plenty of examples of leftists having been wrong.

We know where Hillary stands on the Iraq war.

Why do you keep trying to change the subject?

So question to republicans: are you more willing to vote for someone who thinks Iraq was the right thing to do or not?

Seems the majority of republicans now think the war was a mistake (according to those now running for president).

If they actually understood why it was a mistake then it would be good, but they don't.

Pretty much all of the Middle East intervention by America has been a mistake.

    You can take your pick:

    1) Wrongful detainment and torture of at least 26 innocents, most notably Khalid El-Masri.

    2) The detainment of child soldiers, most notably Omar Khadr

    http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/omar-khadr-ordeal-guantanamo

    3) EIT used by the CIA.

    http://amanpour.blogs.cnn.com/2014/...imes-says-former-guantanamo-chief-prosecutor/

    4) "Double tap" drone strikes that have been escalated by the current administration

    http://mic.com/articles/21070/predator-drone-double-taps-highlight-possible-war-crimes-by-obama

    5) Systematic mistreatment which led to murder

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...uesome-moments-in-the-cia-torture-report.html

Glad to see that people are starting to see the wave of mistakes that the "War on Terror" has augered. Maybe that'll mean a stop to abuses like this and misbegotten wars like the misadventure in Iraq (fingers crossed).
