I’m scared for my mother. Now because of whatever they ****ing said because of this Trump thing she thinks deep state is trying to kill 90% of the population and is completely hysterical. **** you potato ****ing brain idiots. Go die.
From hoax to full blown jennycide. These folks are wee bit bipolar... Their cult needs another figurehead to tell them everything's all right and that they're on the side of history...
You gotta try to get her off Fb bro, download one of the social media time limit apps to her phone or something. It's a very ****ed time for America, the current level of disinformation is unworldly.
I can't imagine what this would be like. My family isn't really fractured along political lines. I suspect a brother in law is a Trumper but he mostly doesn't cause many waves. If my parents started believing goofy **** I think I could reason with them. My condolences over your loss.
Sorry to hear that CCorn and hope things work out for your family. This goes again to why I was speculating that Trump dying in office could lead to violence from his most ardent supporters.
Dude those people will resort to voilence over a lot of things. The most likely scenario for violence revolves around him surviving, losing the election and refusing to step down while convincing the loons it was rigged. I can't think of a more deflating non event than his death. It would take the wind out of their sails. It's the only I way I see we avoid violence.
“They tried to kill him and now they’ve resorted to stealing the election”. All this craziness over a dude that tried to sell steaks at sharper image
A friend of mine of mine has a similar situation going on, in that his mom is apparently reading and at least partially believing the various QAnon things that get put out there. QAnon is the weirdest thing that has been going on the past few years, and IMO has gotten less public attention than it warrants. It is so obviously, transparently fake, yet a ton of people are completely changing (/ruining) their lives over it. It's like an MLM where the product is a never-ending series of conspiracy theories.
I don’t really know what to do. I set up every internet account she has so I could be a dick and block websites... but that won’t go over well. But this is dangerous. How the hell are boomers so ****ing stupid.
I started following their stuff directly and this comment nails it. You don't have a ton of people believing what CNN tells you Qanon is - secret whisteblower in the Whitehouse and celebs eating babies (lulz). But a lot of the ideas they throw out there, no matter how ridiculous, seep into otherwise normal people's peripheral. Weak arguments with no evidence but backed by tons of social media likes. Then you get Republicans "winking' to the growing Q base, giving them perceived validation. It's dangerous because (no offense) these are easily-influenced low IQ people for the most part.
Maybe instead of reasoning with her or try to limit her exposure , you could try to communicate your feelings and your personal relationship on a positive note. Tell her how much you care about her and how much worried and sad you are when you see her crying. How she should focus on her own health and wellbeing. How she needs to be well so she can be around her grandchildren etc I think that reasoning and logic is not possible at this point so take a more emotional approach?
My grandmother was the same way before she passed away. When she hit her late 60's she started regularly buying the National Enquirer magazines. It was a struggle to convince her certain things weren't happening. This was all pre-internet when people could not find others to readily agree with them on crazy things. Not sure the solution on helping a family member with something like this.
