With the NFL season arriving, I would like to assemble an all-time bust team. As they are nominated, I will try to come back and add them to this posting. The rules? There is one rule: was he worth what the team invested in him in terms of draft position or monies committed regardless of what his failure was due to (attitude, laziness, injury, stupidity, etc). Just tell us who bombed bigtime.... This is simplified. of course OFFENSE QB Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch, Heath Shuler RB Ki-Jana Carter, Blair Thomas, Ricky Williams RB Lawrence Phillips, Curtis Enis WR Rae Carruth, Charles Rogers WR Desmond Howard, Hart Lee Dykes TE Ricky Dudley OL OL Antoine Davis OL Kevin Allen OL Tony Mandarich OL Mike Williams (?)-- if he gets picked up it would be his third team DEFENSE DE Mike Mamula, Courtney Brown DE Aundray Bruce DT Kenneth Sims, Darrell Russell DT Steve Emtman, Jerome Brown LB Brian Bosworth LB Quentin Coryatt LB Mike Junkin CB Bruce Pickens CB SS FR SPECIAL TEAMS PK Steve Little P Russell Erxleben KR We might even go 2-deep...
QB - Ryan Leaf, Washington St. RB - Lawrence Phillips, Nebraska RB - Cedric Benson, Texas (And I'm a huge Texas fan) ... have to finish later, curently at work.
Ryan Leaf Aundray Bruce Tony Mandarich Courtney Brown Ki-Jana Carter Brian Bosworth Blair Thomas Rick Mirer Desmond Howard Bruce Pickens Steve Emtman Quentin Coryatt Edit 1 Darrell Russell Kevin Allen (once described by coach Buddy Ryan as a good player to have, "if you want someone to stand around and kill the grass.") Antoine Davis Mike Mamula Edit 3 Tim Couch (cannot believe nobody mentioned him; No. 1 player overall, drafted in front of possible future HOF's and perennial all-pros: Donovan McNabb, Edgerrin james, Torry Holt, Champ Bailey, Daunte Culpepper, Chris McAllister, Jevon Kearse - hell even Ricky Williams had a much better career. Each of these guys was arguably the very best at their position in football for a period - Couch? Not ever, or even close - and he was the top pick?) Andre Wadsworth Andy Katzenmoyer
quarterbacks alone could fill this thread: Ryan Leaf Andre Ware Danny Wuerffel Joey Harrington non-qbs ki-jana carter brian bosworth
Akili Smith Tim Couch Ryan Leaf Andy Katzenmoyer Mike Williams - OL Texas Blair Thomas Mandrich Dan 'Big Daddy' Wilkinson
Ryan Leaf Tim Couch Akili Smith Joey Harrington Gino Toretta Andre Ware <insert Penn State RB> Rashaan Salaam Blair Thomas Curtis Enis Ki-jana Carter <insert Florida WR> R.J. Soward Peter Warrick Rob Morris Courtney Brown Gerard Warren
OFFENSE QB - Heath Shuler RB - Anyone from Penn State (Ki-jana, Blair Thomas, Curtis Enis) RB - Marcus Dupree WR - Travis Taylor WR - Peter Warrick TE - Rickey dudley/Kellen Winslow Jr. OT - Kenyatta Walker OT - Tony Mandarich DEFENSE DE - Dimitrius Underwood DE - Steve Emtman DT - Dewayne Robertson DT - Gerrard Warren LB - Brian Bosworth LB - Aundray Bruce
Couple of old Oilers: Alonzo Highsmith (3rd overall pick IIRC) and George Amundsen, RB out of Iowa State in 1973 (~18th overall pick) Curt Warner, another Penn St RB, was like the 2nd overall pick and had a few decent years with the Seahawks... Maybe Faos remembers this: a couple of years ago the Colts drafted some really great OG from Arkansas in the second round. The young man died in a car crash the next day.
