Anyone else notice that http://www.allmusic.com has massively reworked their website? I know people are usually resistant to change, and I don't want to fall into that trap, but I think this is definitely a change for the worse. It's much more commercial now. My fear is that they'll become more interested in selling CD's than offering fair criticism. First Mr. Showbiz... now this...
i preferred the old format too. When i try to view the "Charts and Awards" section i usually get the "Not Logged In" screen for some reason.
The old format was better. I liked being able to see ratings for every single album, similar artists, influences, Bio, and followers all on the same page. Now I have to search behind several links just to find some of their reviews. I do like the fact that they've added a sample listening to much of the music, but I could do that at CDnow.com (or is it Amazon now?) anyways. Also I like the Editor's picks and some of the new lists the have, like seeing the top 50 or so searched artists is nice (before they just showed a bunch of commonly searched artists for each genre).
I also liked the old version better; however, the new version is starting to catch on with me - it is not that bad.
i noticed the exact same thing a few days ago and can say that it is a definite downgrade. and did they always have a section where you had to pay/register to access? i'd never noticed it before and can say i dont like that idea one bit. booooo...
I usually spend about 30 minutes a day at AMG, sometimes I spend hours at a time there, so I'm not too keen on the log-in system, and AMG knowing what a dork I am. A good look, there's nothing that's "better" about it, but it's not going away anytime soon. I'm still peeved that they wouldn't let you open albums or artists or song titles in another window, and they switched over from that in 2002.
I LOVE allmusic. The new format is actually good. In my old weird way I like the old format because it seemed like the site was more about substance over style, but for once I see nothing to complain about.
It shows what I know about websites: I don't think I've EVER liked a new look to a website gazing upon it for the first time.
