Before there was Hakeem... There was the Chairman, the most dominating rebounding Big man the game has ever seen. Some reporters said that Moses would miss on purpose so that he could pad his rebounding stats. Moses was the definition of a dominating center... <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1OZJC8VaIkQ&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1OZJC8VaIkQ&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Significance is an understatement.... This is the Teacher of Hakeem.. Moses shall lead them. The man who led Houston to it's first NBA Western Conference Championship. He put Houston on his back and carried them.. Plus since Houston won there's not 500 thread on why Brooks sucks or trade Brooks... So since it's slow I figured it would be a good time for some Rockets History Lessons. T_Man
He was a Rocket from 1976 to 1982 and led the Rockets to their first championship appearance in 1980.
The reason for the thread.... So many of these guys know nothing about the Rockets pre-Yoh... I know tinman was trying to put up some History, but I think he's on vacation so I thought I would step in until he got back.
I too had that poster. There has never been a player in the NBA who had Moses' nose for the ball. he was not very big, and not that athletic, but he always knew where the ball would bounce. He was incredible.
If I am not mistaken, tinman wasn't even a Rockets fan when Moses was a Rocket. He is not a '79er.
CD says Moses used to keep his feet moving like a boxer in a fight when positioning for a rebound. This allowed him to get to odd places quicker than anyone else. Kind of interesting...
Not to mention also, that the trade of Malone to the 76er's landed the Rockets Ralph Sampson and, to a lesser extent, (H)akeem.
jefferies could lead the league in offensive rebounds if he averaged 30+ min a game (because he cant make layups )
