Shane Battier is a very good help defender but he is an overrated one on one defender.

Also, a lot of his good defensive work is due to technique and hustle. It is not because he is long and athletically gifted. Problem is, everyone in playoffs hustles and plays hard most of the time.

Based on his hustle and help defense alone he could have made 2nd or 3rd team but his reputation as a defender was probably hurt last year when he had 0 impact defensively in playoffs. This year he has failed to impress again.

But since this list is based on regular season, IMO, he should have made 3rd team.

How can a team with the best defense percentage in the league not have ONE player on the all defensive team?

    What a media crock.

Battier is not a lockdown type one on one player.
But he is excellent in team defense due to his high bball IQ, he knows when to rotate and when to help better than anyone else.

Battier logged alot of minutes at forward recieved 17 votes, the most for anyone who did not get on the team.

Bowen, Kobe, Kidd? Every year, I'm more and more convinced that the media know nothing about defense, in any sport.

Edit: The best defensive team gets none selected to the either All-Defensive Team.

He still deserves to be on the ALL-Defensive team. I mean Kobe made it, and he's basically there because of reputation. Camby is no lockdown defender, and it is arguable that he isn't such a great defender, but due to his stats, he's on the ballot.

I honestly hate the voting system, is flawed. Battier should be given a lot of credit for Houston being #1 in defensive efficiency this year.

bruce bowen is such an overrated defensive player. everyone he guards, he lets them get to their scoring average or more.shane shuts people down when he blocks the shooter's face instead of going for the ball.shane should have been 1st team.thats bs

We don't a special lock down kind of player who can just shut anyone down.

What Rockets are excellent at are TEAM defense.

For all the faults JVG has, he is a master at this..probably the best in the league at it.

The individual players on the Rockets might not be great defensively, but when they all play together, help, and rotate, the sum of the parts is greater than the individual parts.

If there was an award for best defensive TEAM in the league, Rockets and Spurs would be competing for it.

Whoever voted for Dwyane Wade, Richard Jefferson, Chris Paul, Tyson Chandler, and Allen Iverson should have their pens taken away from them. They don't have enough sense to be a sportswriter.

At rebounding. He was an awful post defender on a really poor defensive team.

Actually I feel better about this after seeing that... thank you for posting it. Shane was literally one vote away from being on the second team.

In my opinion, Hinrich is the best at defending the point since Payton's glory days. He might be the best I've ever seen at fighting through a pick. He deserves it.
