The consensus is that Brewer is a skilled player who can handle, pass, and defend, but isn't the athlete that Carney is. Well we might have to re-think that: http://www.floridatoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060611/SPORTS/606110346/1002 This tells me that Brewer is an excellent leaper with an impressive arm reach. Combine this with all the scouting websites agreeing that he's a very skilled player with a high bball IQ who can handle, pass and defend, I am absolutely ready to draft this guy. With this combination of length, athleticism, quickness, and offensive skills he's got everything it takes to be one of these new-wave, killer, multi-dimensional forwards like Boris Diaw and Josh Howard. I say we draft him and don't look back. With his strength and length, I think he'll be able to guard PFs (I mean if Shawn Marion can guard PFs and Boris Diaw can guard centers, why can't Brewer). And if he can guard PFs, the possiblities are endless. He could run the offense from the point forward position, while Tracy plays off the ball, and Luther can be a SG who guards opposing PGs. And having a point forward at the 4 position would put a ton of pressure against pretty much any team with a bigger, less mobile PF. I mean with Brewer and T-mac manning the forward positions, who would Dirk guard? Who would Duncan guard? What about Brand? Or we could run Brewer in the backcourt, and get a more traditional PF in there. And like I mentioned earlier, with Brewer, we can put Luther at the PG position and play him like a SG. Brewer is exactly the type of versatile swingman type the league is going towards. The fact that nobody seems to question his skills, or effort also bodes well. Let's draft Ronnie Brewer. Who's with me?
Said papa bull to baby bull, let's sneak down there and ........... I say let's get both Brewer and J.J., provided Morrison doesn't fall in our laps.
Cable, I'm down with drafting him as a SG and sometimes swingman helping out TMAC, but you lost me at playing a 6'7" inch guy that weighs less that 220 at PF. I am not sure what is going on there. I might go with Tracy at PF, Brewer at SF with Stro playing C, with a backcourt we can create from whatever we have on hand after pick-ups this summer. This unit could be used on some occasions to play small ball. My question is can he be the lockdown defender against Kobe, Dwayne, Hamilton and the other super-2's. He is either going to have to be able to do that or become a super-2 himself.
i was sold on a brewer till a couple days ago and now a big part of me really wants reddick. i'm still brewer first but man it would be nice to have both.
We will take Ronnie Brewer at #8, or we will regret it. EDIT: I figure it goes without saying that the above statement assumes that none of the bigger names fall to us unexpectedly (ie. Gay, Morrison, Roy), but I wanted to clarify. So basically what I'm saying is that if we stay at #8 and get Carney or Redick instead of Brewer, we will have made a mistake.
Hmmmm....if we "drafted" Brewer along with Ager and teamed them with Head, we would only need a player named Glass. Oh, no, Mr. Bill! Oh, wait! Houston isn't Milwaukee (thank goodness). A Brewer is better than a Carney -- although both have their places under the Big Tent known as the NBA.
I'd be perfectly happy with Brewer, depending on who falls to us. And how the rest of the offseason goes (Mike James? trading Luther/Stro for better parts? etc)
If verified, this is definitely the kind of thing to push one guy ahead of another, because I always assumed Carney would check out athletically well ahead of Brewer. I guess we need to see how Carney did exactly, but that is very good news for the pro-Brewer crew.
Just read Brewer's interview... "And with the 8th pick in the 2006 NBA draft the Houston Rockets select Ronnie Brewer U of A." If he can ball as well as he interviews he would be a nice player in our system. We would still need another perimeter shooter, but we have more needs than we can meet in one draft.
Wow! Ronnie Brewer heh? I hope this is not because he nailed 19 of 25 3 point shooters! I am not sure- but this would mean we are trading down to NOK's picks. That way we cover Shelden Williams ( or PF they covet). New Jersey is lower in the pecking order to get this done- or is this a 3 team deal.
their mock draft looks good! Mock picks Here is FLORIDA TODAY NBA writer John Denton's mock NBA Draft for the first 11 picks. The draft will be June 28. 1. Adam Morrison, Gonzaga (Raptors) 2. Rudy Gay, Connecticut (Bulls) 3. Tyrus Thomas, LSU (Bobcats) 4. Andrea Bargnani, Italy (Blazers) 5. LaMarcus Aldridge, Texas (Hawks) 6. Randy Foye, Villanova (Timberwolves) 7. Marcus Williams, UConn (Celtics) 8. Brandon Roy, Washington (Rockets) 9. Shelden Williams, Duke (Warriors) 10. Patrick O'Bryant, Bradley (Sonics) 11. J.J. Redick, Duke (MAGIC) hehe
What can I say? Perhaps I'm becoming a morning man. However, I never cry in my beer (I've never had one), so why not laugh about it? We really need about three picks in the Top 10 to fill our needs, so we might as well have a little fun while waiting.
I have wanted Brewer from the beginning, but be cautious about over-hyping him. Alot of these athletic, all-around players fail to pan out in the NBA... ala Reece Gaines. Then again, they are more of a sure thing in the NBA than college specialists.
Yikes. I personally think Morrison would be a good fit w/ the Raptors but I don't think they'll pick him. Gay to the Bulls make zero sense, they already have Deng and Nocioni at wing and are in dire need of a PF. Bargnani or Aldridge make a lot more sense. No way Aldridge falls that low to the Hawks, if so, I hope the Rockets are calling the Hawks off the hook. Foye to the Wolves doesn't make much sense since they have McCants, both are undersized SGs. Williams or Roy would probably be pick if they had their choice of the two. But he also has Roy to the Rockets, so I guess it's not that bad.
What about Brewer and Fran Vasquez. Brewer will probably be there at #11. I think the rockets have a very good chance of moving down and picking up another young asset.
