***not so much spoliers, just scathing review*** Caught the midnight show. Very few movies get massive business bc of their nostalgic value but this one was a couldn't miss situation... or so I thought. I mean, cmon! "Keel mee!! I am here!!!" Such good source materials, but in the end i have to give it comedy of the year. Let's just say it wasn't exactly Freddy Vs. Jason. No Arnold. No Danny Glover. No Siguorney Weaver. No WAY I could sit through that again without my buddies Tom Servo and Crow. The first third of it was just pointless boring backstory to set up the computer extravaganza. I turned to my friend after the first action scene and said "Oh, looks like the movie finally started." Seriously, could they rely any more on computer generated graphics? On the plus side, it was fun seeing what the directors thought would happen and my Whoppers and Twizlers were excellent. Could've used a love scene between the two main characters if ya know what I mean. If I wanted to see a story about teamwork and friendship, I would've done Princess Diaries 2 or something. MORE ARNOLD!
I was really looking foward to this one but when it got a PG-13 rating i figured something was wrong. This seems like one of those movies that couldnt possibly be ruined but someone managed to do it.
I was actually quite happy that there was no Sigourney and no Arnold, etc. Big name stars would only have taken away from the real potential of this film, and that's predator/alien fights, and lots of them. Humans should be nothing but an afterthought in this movie. And as for the CGI, that doesn't bother me because it would be damned difficult to have the kind of fight scenes aliens would have with predators if relied on animatronics much. Animatronics and models look real, but it is way too difficult to convey speed realistically on such a big scale as would be necessary for this movie. I plan on seeing it sometime midday...I hope I am not dissapointed. For those that have seen it, is the PG-13 rating warranted? A friend of mine and I were speculating that perhaps due to less human fighting and more predator/alien battles, there isn't as much traditional "gore" to speak of. I mean, if a human has his/her skull crushed, it freaks people out, if an alien has it's head crushed, all you get is acid and much less people freaking out (or so I would think).
Crap. A movie I have been looking forward to ever since I heard about it way back when and it appears to stink to high heaven. The fact that the studio didn't release it for early review by the critics is a dead giveaway this film sucks without even seeing it. Apparently, even the effects are not that great from the reviews I have read over at Rotten Tomatoes(1 - Fresh; 7 - Rotten). They indicate a lot of the fight scenes are more a blur where you can't really tell what's going on. It also reads like the editing is loud and bad. The humans are devoid of character and make you wish humanity would end. I guess this was to be expected but I'm still disappointed as hell. I'm kind of wishing this film was never made now. I probably won't go see it now. It appears to be a DVD rental and, by the looks of it, it won't be a long wait for the DVD.
There wasn't enough Predator Alien action and I was *spoiler* severly dissappointed that one single Alien managed to take down 2 Predators, especially when there are only 3. James Cameron wanted to do another Alien movie and said he'd only do it if they didn't make AVP.
Not exactly a whole lot of room for character development....or even a real script...with a movie like this.
*spoiler-rific* Well, the one Predator left and the one human left leave a Predator wrist bomb in the temple and get the hell out. The thing blows killing all the face huggers and Aliens except for the queen. The queen had been frozen and chained up and she is used to make eggs to make Aliens for their ritual hunt. The Aliens free the queen though and somehow she survives the nuclear blast. The human and the Pred fight her on the surface, and the women, I don't know her real name but her character was Lex, grabs a chain that's still attached to the queen and wraps it onto a huge metal fuel tank that was teetering on a ledge. While she forces the thing to fall, the Queen runs her tail through the last Predator and tosses him aside. Then the fuel tank falls and takes the queen over the ledge and into a deep watery grave. The Predator dies and other Preds show up to take his body and they give Lex a spear because the Predator she was with had used a piece of Alien or face hugger to burn a little mark on her cheek because she managed to kill an Alien inside. Later, on the Pred ship, the body of the "Hero" Predator is lying there when a baby Predalien busts through his stomach. The thing looks like a baby Alien, but it has Predator mandibles. See earlier, when the "hero" Predator had killed a face hugger, he cut off one of it's legs and used the acid to burn a mark on his helmet, then on his forehead. After he killed an Alien that tried to sneak up on him, he had let his guard down and a face hugger got him.
Remember when you first saw Jurassic Park 3 and Dr. Grants on the plane going to the island and all the sudden there's a raptor next to him that says "AAAlan!" and the audience busts out laughing and everyone is clueless? There were many of those moments. Still go see it for the Spinosaurus vs T-Rex type battles, but don't expect Jurassic Park 1 type quality. The battle scenes keep you reasonably in the movie to make it not a complete disaster.
The only predator you need to see is the one that battled Arnold. The only Alien you need to see is the one in the first series.
I'm getting sick of Hollywood keeps on making crap ass load of movies. All they care about are the money. I mean where;s the creativity behind this? They all think they could get away without the story, plot and idea with amazing CGI. Man what a bunch of r****d directors coming out of nowhere. Most are like music video directors who think they could direct a movie.
