Saw him tonight for the first time in a multimedia production called "By The Hand of the Father." It was: "An original theatrical work that combines spoken word, music, and video to dramatize the unique 20th century journey of the Mexican-American father." Being a WASP from the Canadian prairies with roots for many generations in the Canadian Maritimes, I wasn't sure how well I was going to relate to the show, but it was great. That guy is an amazing songwriter. I understand that he is based out of Austin and that this show will be going there in the near future. I highly recommend it. Can anybody recommend some of his CDs? I'm definitely going to be adding some of his music to my collection. http://www.aboutpd.org/bthof-frameset.html#schedule
For some reason I only have "With these hands." Why it makes no sense is that I've seen him at least half a dozen times at Mucky Duck, and I've always really enjoyed the shows. If you live in Houston, you should check him out at the Continental Club next month. I checked your link, and the show you're talking about is playing in Banff and Calgary. If you live in Banff or Calgary (read that: that close to Banff), I hate you, and you can go straight to hell.
Duh....I didn't see your username until after I hit "Submit Reply." I drove all over that part of Canada on my honeymoon. From Vancouver to Lake Louise and Banff, back across to Whistler, and down the Sea to Sky to a ferry across to Victoria. My eyes glisten up just thinking about it. I'll always be a Texan, but I'd give it all up (except my wife and family) to be up there. Catch Alejandro at the Big Secret Theater in Calgary this weekend. You won't be disappointed. It's hard to imagine it by looking at him, but he's one of the founding members of the Nuns, a punk band in San Fran that even opened for the Sex Pistols. I want to get these albums from him: Gravity and Bourbonitis Blues which features some members of the Squirrel Nut Zippers....a band I really like.
Opening night was last night, at the Big Secret Theatre in Calgary. That's the show I went to. It's part of an experimental theatre festival, so the show times are unusual (opening on a Wednesday). Oh, and I can be in Banff National Park one hour after walking out my front door. http://www.oyr.org/Rodeo/rodeo_002/rodeo_index.html
