I suggested Varejao and Waiters a couple of weeks ago, when people were speculatiing about Waiters on the trading block. Varejao (if healthy) would be great - because he isn`t only a great PF with a jump shot but also a real backup C which is something we really need with Asik gone. Waiters has some real offensive talents and would be a real Morey move (a gamble with huge upside). If we can get both for Asik that would be a great trade - if Varejao is healthy. If Waiters is not included, I´d say we don`t do that trade - only if Cleveland includes a first rounder, which they won`t do.
If Morey is talking to Cleveland about Varejao _ he's probably going after Waiters too and I have no problem with that. Because Waiters would be a hell of a scoring punch off the bench and excellent insurance for Harden.
If Waiters or a first is coming along with Asik, great. But 31 year old Varejao that hasn't come anywhere near a half season of play since 09-10? That's a huge gamble. IF IF IF he can stay on the court, he would be a terrific fit playing at the 4 and 5.
GOOD QUESTION!!! I think it's going to be a 3-way trade between Cleveland, Philly and Houston; Houston - out; Asik, D-Mo Houston - in; Varejo and Waiters and a #2 Cleveland -out; Varejo and Waiters Cleveland- in; Thad Young and D-Mo Philly- out; Thad Young and a #2 Philly- in; Asik
To be honest, I'm not really even sure Morey would want Waiters mainly cause of his contract situation. Another one of those guys who was drafted too him, and his on court production does not justify his salary. He has this year and next guaranteed, but the tricky part is, if they didn't pick up his team option for 2015/16 we would just be counting the days till they could find a trade for him as an expiring contract next year. Its the curse of the #2 - #5 pick guys where they could be good rotation players, but they are teams are going to try and move them ASAP when they find out they are not star players because their contracts will become difficult to move very soon when the rest of the league figures out what they already know. Its rumored that Morey has his eyes set on financial flexibility in 2015 so I doubt any player he takes back will have salary past next season. Alonzo Gee however.... the Rockets had their eyes on him a couple years ago, and his contract is up on the Summer of 2015. Wouldn't be shocked at all if they found a way to acquire him or maybe Earl Clark as well in the deal. -Lastly, dont forget about that Miami pick that Cleveland owns. I'm sure Morey will try and snag one or two of their picks they own from them and Memphis in the deal as well. Might not have much value now, but they could in a year or two if Miami breaks up their core and the way Memphis has looked as of late, that pick could turn out to be a nice trade chip.
I still think Asik for Millsap will Happen, remember the Hawks Wanted a S/T with josh Smith and Asik when Houston got Dwight, but they couldn't so they signed Millsap whose contract will end After the 14/15 Season which means we can still go After KLove or LMA.
Interesting. If we dump Lin and Asik's salary then "we'd be front runners for Greg Monroe by a mile"? How do you figure that? You're talking about the same Greg Monroe that will be a restricted free agent next off season? Let's disregard the fact that LA, Boston, Dallas and Washington would still have more cap space than us under that scenario. With or without those teams Detroit is far and away the favorite to sign Monroe. Detroit will be almost $20M under the cap and they will have the right to match any offer for Monroe. So you're convinced that Detroit would just let Monroe walk for nothing rather than matching any offer? What's your basis for that assumption?
Rockets need a floor general in the worst way. These guys get list at times and Harden dominates the ball by default IMO. Harden was great off the ball in OKC so ROX fans who feel he couldn't coexist with a premier PG are incorrect. Add to that how frustrating it is to waste Dwights talents because nobody on the team knows how to get him the ball. Rondo or bust. This team doesn't need more offense or role players.
? You're asking the wrong question. It isn't about what he brings that Asik doesn't. Asik doesn't want to STAY here and asked for a trade. If he didn't, Morey might have been perfectly happy keeping Asik here...
If you have millisap aldridge dont go for 30+ points lastnight. jones is good and all but we need a good strong power forward.
oh yeah, i love Varejao, tha man with balls of steel. definitely an upgrade but healthwise i'm not sure. but this guy can really rebound and finish. get it dun murray!@
Steve Kyler Omer Asik: The Houston Rockets have been aggressive is setting the stage for an Asik deal this week. They have come off their two first round draft pick asking price and it seems that a deal for Asik could drop sometime after Sunday. There have been reports about Asik to the Hawks for Paul Millsap, but sources close to the situation in Atlanta say that trading Millsap is not something under consideration. The Cleveland Cavaliers have emerged as a possible suitor for Asik and clearly have the assets to make a deal, especially if it involved sending out the non-guaranteed deal of Andrew Bynum or the $9 million contract of Anderson Varejao. Only $4 million of Varejao’s deal next season is guaranteed so it wouldn’t have to be a long-term marriage for Houston if Varejao can’t stay healthy. Factor in a roster loaded with young guys on rookie scale deals, the Cavs have the pieces to be a player for Asik if they genuinely want to be. The Philadelphia 76ers were said to be in the hunt on Asik a few weeks ago with a deal centered around Thaddeus Young. Sources close to that situation say the 76ers would not include a draft pick in a deal for Asik but wouldn’t have a problem with the $13 plus million balloon payment that’s part of Asik’s contract next season mainly because it does not affect their cap space. An Asik-for-Young deal works straight up under the salary cap. The Rockets have made it clear to teams that they want to get a deal completed this week so they have the option to re-trade players they might have to take on to move Asik, so he is expected to be on the move in the coming days.
