Is this a little different or what? In an ESPN Subscription article by David Aldridge:

Rockets, picking ninth, are salivating over 7-2 center Iakovos Tsakalidis, playing for the AEK team in Greece. Whether Tsakalidis will be eligible to play in the NBA next season -- there are the usual European contract issues -- is one matter. But his skills and size -- a legit 285 pounds -- are worth waiting for. Problem for the Rockets is that Cleveland, one spot ahead at eight, also has a need for a center.

Although I have a feeling Aldridge is wrong about the Rockets having an interest in Tsakalidis, I sure hope he is right about Problem for the Rockets is that Cleveland, one spot ahead at eight, also has a need for a center.

That will give up a much better chance at getting Miller.

LOL! Well here's to hoping the Rockets put that out there so Cleveland goes, "Houston wants him? NOT SO FAST! We're taking him at #8! HA!"

    Oh. Damn. You got us.

What I find funny or odd is NBA.com said he was about 225 pounds... Aldridge claims he is a "legit 285 pounds" .... that's a huge difference.

If the Rockets do indeed draft Tsakalidis I think it's safe to say Cato is on the way out.

Clutch-is Tsakalidis scheduled to work out for us?

I think he is closer to 285. If he was 225, he'd be a string bean, which he obviously isn't. He'd be extremely risky...Vancouver has shown a lot of interest in him, I'll take Swift over him any idea. OK, realistically, that'd be an interesting move. that means 3 centers (Mihm, Pryzbilla, Tsakalidis) would go top 9, maybe top 8, along with the 3 PFs, and Miles for sure. If the 3 centers, the 3 PFs, and Miles go top 8, that means all but one out of Alexander, Moiso, Johnson, Miller, Stevenson, Peterson, point guards, Olumide will be available. That's good news.

What else is good, is that if some team were interested in him that was behind us, such as Dallas, or Boston, or Milwaukee, we could possibly make out with other things.

Would you make a trade with Boston, who's drooling over him, of #9 for #11, and something? That franchise looks like it'll implode any minute, at #11, we could easily nab Johnson, Stevenson, maybe Moiso, or use it to steal Olumide away from Dallas at #12.

#9 and Drew for #11 and Potapenko?

Yeah, if we do get IT(man his name is too hard to type), then Cato is out. So there might be a trade happening if we are indeed interested in this guy.

Carroll Dawson should learn from his mistakes with the Comets drafts. The past 3 years he has taken a European center and they keep not coming over or changing their mind or being injured.

I doubt we take this guy. Sounds like Vancouver really likes this guy and one rumor I have heard is that if Orlando hasn't yet traded away the #10 and Tsakalidis is still around, they will trade the pick to Vancouver for Othella Harrington.

Salivating over Tsakalidis? This is a good one. LOL!

I can guarantee that becuase the Miller cover has been blown, and that people are now predicting us getting Moiso, Rockets "leaked" this info to Aldridge.

While i dont necessarily want this guy if we did draft him why do u all automatically assume cato is gone? we could easily play him at PF. that would be a very big and tough frontline. and as som1 else said we could get a scoring 3 through next years draft or something. PF and C are almost the same in what they do these days in the NBA in my opinion. just a thought.

I believe Cato is gone. The Rockets have received lots of feedback as to his value, and we should be able to get a starting PF or SF, or move up in the draft to get Swift or Miles.

I don't believe the Rockets see him as our solution at center for the future. So they will trade him while he still has "potential" written all over him. Good trade bait.

We will get our center in other ways: Obtain Webber in free agency, a trade with LA for Olowakandi, draft a backup center with our #2 pick this year, and draft a good center in next year's draft, when there will be some good centers finally in the draft.

We will also "talk up" Prysbilla or Tsakalidis so they get taken ahead of us. Whatever it takes to somehow pick up Miles or Miller as a building block at the 3. I don't believe there are any centers this year any better than Cato, and we plan to trade him. There's no way we'll take one of them.

It's also getting weird with this BBS getting so much attention. I'm beginning to wonder if we can be so candid, without everyone knowing what we are thinking around here.

Sherlock-Webber isn't a center. Washington tried that with him, and it failed MISERABLY.

Was a bit suprised by this at first, but the more you think about the more it makes sense. The potential for Rockets to pick up some decent forwards with the trade exemption, a cato deal and with free agent exemption means that drafting a centre might be a wise option. There are some decent centres coming in the draft, it's unlikely Mihm and Pryzbila will go as low as nine, but Tsakalidis may very well do. And maybe he could be a good pick with a year of tutoring from Hakeem, who better to teach him. Of course I'm probably wrong (it's been known) and the Rockets are just playing on the fact that Cleveland appeared keen on him. Still if we do get him I for one don't think it would be a disastorous pick [IMG]

Every two years or so, the Rockets get some misbegotten giant who they hope Hakeem will mentor in some way.

Let's not count on Hakeem to "tutor" any young centers before, after, or in the offseason. Over the past 5 years, Hakeem's limo has been waiting for him with the engine running in the parking lot as soon as the final buzzer sounds. As much as I love Hakeem, he understandably has cared less than a damn since the irregular heartbeats he had a few years ago.

Other Rocket centers Hakeem has "tutored":
    Thomas Hamilton
    Zan Tabak
    Carl Herrera
    Adrian Caldwell
    Eric Riley

    oh yeah, and Kelvin Cato.

Let's not waste high draft picks on a "project", hoping that Hakeem will show him the ropes. Kareem himself couldn't teach Olowakandi how to shoot.

    MrB

Alright Mr B I agree with you we've had a lot of project centres but to be honest it's as Versace said today if you look around the league and count the number of decent centres you stop short of ten. I think if there is a chance to draft someone whose getting good reports and he's the best player left on the board then why shouldn't the Rockets pick him just because we've had a few disasters at centre.
