THE BAD PLUS - "THESE ARE THE VISTAS" Album of the year. Period. End of statement. No ifs, ands or buts. If you are a jazz fan, check this out IMMEDIATELY! I was just looking at the April 2003 issue of "Jazz Times" magazine, and there was an article on the Bad Plus, calling them, "The best trio you've never heard". Talked about their innovative work along with some of their covers, including Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit". So I checked out some of the songs, and the next day went to my local CD store and ordered the CD. That was over a week ago and the thing has not left my CD player since. I'm afraid I'm going to wear a groove into it. If you're a fan of jazz music, run to your local music store and buy it NOW. You will not regret it. Even if you're not a big fan of jazz music, check it out. Their cover of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is, dare I say, better than the original. If you can't get it from your locally owned CD store, or you want to read more about the album, you can check out the CD here.
I like the conversion of Kurt Cobain's guitar solo (which was pretty crappy but it's easy for people to play so they like it i guess) to piano. It sounds pretty good.
Thanks for pointing this album out. For some reason i have never gotten into jazz but this sounds like something i would really like. I will definatly put it on my list of cd's to buy. Also, no matter how good it is i wouldnt declare an album of the year untill i have listened to the upcomming Radiohead album.
Go Go Go Go Go Shorty, its ya birthday, We gonna party like its your birthday, We gonna sip bicardi, like its ya birthday And you know we don't give f*** its not a ya birthday or I was born........... on the llano estacado
Yeah, I read several good reviews of this, but Jazz really isn't my thing. In other music news, Rolling Stone gave the White Strips new album 5 stars. Comes out Tuesday.
Dude, I didn't think it would work either, but trust me, it does! Honestly, give it a shot. You can probably get it off of one of the illegal downloading programs like Kazaa.
C'mon...they're "ultra-talented!" I would even call them "genius!" "Who says Rock and Roll is dead?" Just look at them, and tell me they aren't the "future of music!" *hyperbole off* I think they're a decent band. I like listening to them, but apparently a strictly red and white wardrobe along with an ambiguous relationship between the band members is all it takes to be "the next big thing." In a way, the White Stripes are genius for the way they've manipulated the media to elevate them to this upper-echelon status they are currently enjoying.
Last summer she was canoodling pretty heavy with a member of a band who played at this club I work at. Some Detroit rock band that was opening up for Hope Sandoval (ex Mazzy Star). Meg was cool, though, drinking cheap vodka gimlets, very nice and sweet to everyone.
White Stripes are a joke. It baffles me how some of these goofy idiots get any attention. No offense meant to the fan club out there. I'm sure I love a band you may hate As for Album of the Year: I can't take Audioslave out of my CD player. It's gotta throw back feel, kinda like a classic rock albumn. It's refreshing to hear Morello's guitar instead of the typical drop D triple rectifier setups that are so poplular right now. Tone baby!!! Just give me some TONE
Are we talking about 2002 or 2003 in relation to when the cd came out? For 2002 I think Queens of the Stone Age probaly had the best album. Nothing for 2003 has gotten me really excited yet although I keep hearing rumors of A Perfect Circle recording and some other bands to.
