Apparently Grayson gets upset over the estimated 44, 000 needless deaths per year caused by the present day healthcare "sytem" that the GOP staunchly tries to keep intact.

Grayson: The GOP is a "lie factory"
By Tony Romm - 10/01/09 06:59 PM ET
The now-infamous Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) unleashed another verbal tirade against Republicans on Thursday, calling the party a "lie factory" that hoped only to stall the healthcare debate.

Grayson also dismissed calls that he apologize for his remark earlier this week that Republicans' healthcare plan was to "die quickly" -- an allegation that has since invoked the ire of the entire GOP.

"America is sick of you, Republican Party; you're a lie factory, that's all you do," he told MSNBC on Thursday. "Why don't you work together with the Democrats to solve America's problems instead of making stuff up?"

Grayson then called the party a bunch of "no-mongers," and he chided GOP lawmakers for failing to come up with their own healthcare plan in the 48 hours since he first attacked their strategy.

"The people who should be apologizing are the Republicans, they're the ones who should apologize for dragging us all through the mud here while we're just trying to improve healthcare in America," he said. "That's all we're trying to do."

The GOP has since dismissed Grayson's remarks as partisan hackery, and some party members are now calling for Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to sanction the congressman for his comments -- much as Democrats rebuked Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) for interrupting the president during his address to Congress. But Democrats have grumbled at that suggestion, claiming it is little more than a distraction from the more important debates confronting Congress.

Grayson said Thursday he agreed with that perspective, but he also offered some tough words for his own party, which he said needed to work together to overcome Republicans' stall tactics.

"We've got to get past this point where everything is stalled; where the Republicans are winning just through inertia," he said. "We have a majority, we have to use it."

The remarks that catapulted Grayson to national attention.
    ++++++++++
Washington Republicans are horrified, horrified, horrified by the bluntness of Florida Democratic Congressman Alan Grayson.

The tough kid from the Bronx (and Harvard Law School) who represents an until recently Republican Orlando-area district pulled no punches Tuesday, when he declared on the House floor:

"The Republican health care plan is this: Don't get sick, and if you do get sick, die quickly."

After his GOP colleagues recovered from the shock of a Democrat actually calling them out, they demanded an apology.

Grayson returned to the House floor to announce that:

"I would like to apologize, I apologize to the dead and their families that we haven't voted sooner to end this holocaust in America."

So unfamiliar with the notion that a Democrat might actually take the healthcare debate seriously enough to try and win it, the Republicans presumed that Grayson had gone off the deep end. The National Republican Congressional Committee screeched:

It's astonishing! Astounding! Marvelous and magnificent!
Someone finally told the congressional Republicans to get bent.

To me, this is the most salient point he has made. The lack of shame from the Republican side of the aisle as they intentionally try to delay health care to death is sickening. I'm glad to see someone in Congress still remembers that they are accountable to the American people. With about 120 Americans dying every day due to lack of health insurance, the Republicans in Congress should be ashamed of their policy of sticking their fingers in their collective ears and screaming "NO!"

His comments on the subject have been far less "outlandish and stupid" than the tripe put out by Sarah Palin and Faux "News."

so, it's okay for grayson to say outlandish and stupid comments, because someone else is making even dumber and more outlandish comments?

no wonder this government never gets anything done.

The GOP is doing nothing but obstructing reform efforts. Given that fact, Grayson's comments, while harsh, are not particularly outlandish OR stupid.

I sort of agree with Landlord here.

Although Grayson’s comments are justified and it’s frustrating at times dealing with the crazies in the party of “no”, there’s no reason to stoop to their level of vitriol.

    I don’t think it’s helpful.

IMO, nothing that Grayson said reaches the level of vitriol exhibited by the GOP and 'baggers lately.

We prolly could have don't without the "knuckledraggers" rhetoric, but the rest of it was pretty spot on.

I think the holocaust stuff is silly and brings Dems down to the GOP level, but the stuff in the first article, targetting Republicans for not doing anything and simply being a "lie factory" is exactly the type of stuff we should be hearing from Dems around the country. It's completely accurate and hard-hitting, without the hyperbole of things like the holocaust comment.

What do you call the deaths of 44,000 people per year?

Grayson's comments were right on. We are talking life and death and/or needless 24/7 depression and pain for many Americans. I wonder sometimes if any of you have ever talked to someone suffering who has no insurance.

"Holocaust" is a loaded word, though at 44, 000 per year times 50 years of obstruction on health insurance for all, we are talking about millions of excess deaths.

I'm not sure you fight the tactics of the GOP by mild mannered wonk discussions. If nothing else calm dispassionate discussion will not rally the vast majority, who will benefit, to take it to the streets or pressure their contented congress people to act. You can't leave all the passion on the other side.

    Two things.

    1. He shouldn't have used holocaust.

    2. This shows the Republicans to be the Utah Jazz of politics. They had members of their party on the floors of congress saying that the Democrats health care plans would be a death sentence for seniors.

They actually said that and were serious. Until Graham nobody bothered to speak out against that kind of crazy talk. We had Grassley telling seniors they should be scared because of the health proposals. Again the Republicans were serious.

Then when Grayson does something tongue and cheek, they start whining and crying, and writing up legislation condemning him.

The GOP are the Utah Jazz.

The party of Death Panels is now getting sensitive about being accused of letting people die?

Not a holocaust. Lots of things kill 40k+ people per year - we don't go around referring to them as holocausts. What is generally referred to as THE holocaust was 11+ million over about 10 years - or more than 1 million per year. Beyond that, the calculation of the 40k number is highly suspect in itself.

Hyperbole doesn't benefit anyone here. Call it what it is - a massive tragedy that can be improved on through better policy; policy that the GOP is obstructing and lying about.
