What do you think of his chances getting here and being able to adapt to our system? Some people are saying that we should go for Darius Miles. But I'll prefer AL first before that portland headcase
i loved his game when he was in Indiana. I would take him, but why would ATL do it. Nevermind its ATlanta, if they can take tyronne lue from us, than they can take mooch from us too. Lets do it ATL.
what position did he play.....i used to think he played sf, but i hear he plays pf too.....but neways i wouldnt know how we could get him
Al is a solid player. He actually is a pretty good defender and is very mobile. I would say Al is a poor-man's SAR at least offensively (but better than Howard). But is better defensively than SAR or Howard. Harrington is more valuable as a 3rd scorer on a team than their go-to guy. Al can play the 3 or the 4 but I think he is more of a 4. Indiana gave up on Harrington because he came up small in the playoffs but I still think he is a solid player. I am sure Atlanta would look to move him but we dont have anything they would want.
Hes not that bad. I dont think we can get this guy. Unless they want Mike James (who?). I like his game. He wasnt traded out of Indiana because of the bad playoffs it was because he wanted to get more minuets and be a bigger part of the offense. It was his choice.
what is atlanta gearing up for? every year they trade good players for scrubs with expiring contracts
Why would Atlanta want to trade him...? What do we have that they have any interest in? The Hawks aren't looking to move him. He, along with Childress and Smith, is part of their attempt at rebuilding. Now, if they draft Marvin Williams, maybe something can be worked out... But we don't have anything to offer, even in that scenario.
I would but unlike Portland with Darius Al is too good and already part of a nucleus that may be good in two years.
Harrington would have to be a near ideal addition. He would thrive as a 3rd option like he did in Indiana and is only 25 years old on top of that---plenty of time to grow & develop with Yao and T-Mac.
I like Harrington's game but he is a definite tweener. If we're looking for a shot-blocker, no. Looking for a solid 3rd option, sure, why not; more likely to trade for him than to sign SAR.
Not the ideal PF you'd want next to Yao Ming. He is a low percentage shooter who does not make up for it with a good enough rebounding game. And his weak side defense is not any better than Padgett or Bowens or Howards for that matter. Juwan Howard is a better player for this team and if we are going to trade for a PF he will have to be good enough so that Howard is coming off the bench. He'd be a nice backup but thats not what we're looking for.
Let's not kid ourselves here. Harrington is a much better player than Howard. If it came down to deciding between the two, you would be nuts to pick Howard. That said, in the proposed "scenario" of adding Harrington, it's still an upgrade. An upgrade is what we need at PF---in any way, shape or form. We were a consistent 3rd scorer away from running away with the Dallas series. Although Harrington is just an average rebounder, his offensive game along with his athleticism is exactly what we were missing in that series. Granted, Harrington wouldn't be the IDEAL, dream PF that we all imagine but the point is it's still an upgrade. Sure, it could be a lot like you anti-SAR crowds think and that's too much reduncancy at the position with Harrington-Howard or SAR-Howard. It goes far beyond that. If the chance is there to upgrade the position, you make the move. Only problem is Atlanta could get a lot more in return than anything we could offer so this is a pipe dream at best.
Sure, Harrington is a better player than Howard, but at least Howard is a traditional PF from a defensive and rebounding standpoint, which is what the Rockets need. I don't see how using evidence from the Dallas series can be held against Howard since he didn't play. And, with a contract like Al Harrington's, I don't think the Rockets take it on if it's not a significant upgrade over what they already have. Since I don't think it is, it wouldn't surprise me if the Rockets didn't pursue it. Harrington's more natural position is SF, not PF. He doesn't have the size to truly compete with the elite PFs in the NBA.
Howard and Harrington are both average rebounders and defenders. Howard being more of a "traditional PF" in those regards means nothing let alone some form of a competitive edge over Harrington. You're either a good rebounder/defender or you're not. There's no such thing as a "tie breaker" if one player has played that position his entire career whereas Harrington has played both forward positions. And I like Howard a lot but i'm really not sure he would have made that much of a difference in the Dallas series. All he really does is shoot those mid-range and elbow jumpers with the occasional post up. He doesn't attack the basket nor do I think he would have unlike Harrington who could have used his quickness to his advantage in that situation. Harrington barely makes more than what Howard already does on a shorter deal. Contract and dollars wouldn't be a problem for CD and Les if the opportunity to add him came along. Size would be a problem? 6'9, 250 lbs with long arms. Not like any PF as it is can really compete with the elite PF's (unless your name is Duncan, KG, Dirk or another or so). Harrington could hold his own offensively---he practically owns the baseline no matter who is guarding him.
It's looking more and more like the Hawks will take Marvin Williams in the draft. If that's the case and with Josh Smith penciled in at the 3 spot, Williams would be their new 4. Harrington is clearly going to be shopped in the offseason. Probably in hopes that the Hawks can obtain a decent PG.
Actually I could see something along the lines of a S&T Earl Watson + Bonzi Wells for Al Harrington + cap filler.
Well that would require Memphis to take on more salarly because Bonzi and Watson would be coming off the books (they would just need to decline Bonzi's option). All indications say that the Grizz don't want more salary unless it's an impact player. Do they really need another sf/pf tweener. They are pretty stacked with swingmen and Gasol is their PF. I don't think that move is much of an upgrade at all.
I agree the Hawks will take Williams if Bogut is selected 1st. But the Hawks will be stacked w/ SFs. Williams, Smith, Childress, and Harrington are all small forwards, Harrington is a tweener. Harrington (if shopped) could bring in a pretty good player, probably a PG like you said. They could have a pretty good team if they can get a good PG and maybe a bigger PF.
