Looking at the box right now he has EIGHT! Didn't Carmello wonder at last year's All Star game why AK was on the team and HE wasn't? Right now, Carmello 3-20FGs. Yes 3-20. And AK has 8 blocks. Mello = owned!
... but he's still damn UGLY! -- droxford
He's a great weakside shot blocker, but he also has the ability to block some straight up shots, ala Lamar Odom against the Lakers. He's just got the timing down to a T is all. And he's not ugly, he's got that sickly stick skinny European thing going on...
He's got the timing down alright! Shot blocking is all about timing - which is why a 76 year old Dikembe Mutumbo was able to block 6 shots the other day - he still knows when to swing those arms.... Kirrilenko is just the total defensive package!! Probably one of the most underrated players in the league (still)
Anyone know what's the record of block counts in NBA history? I mean both in one game and in career, seems Dikembe Mutumbo is 3rd blocker in NBA history.
Dream is the official leader career-wise with 3800 and change. I'm not sure of the single game record. Probably somewhere from 14-18
Deke is the fourth on the list, he just crossed 3000 blocks for his career, one of 4 players to do so. Mark Eaton, Kareem and Hakeem are above him. Eaton though is only like 60 or so blocks ahead of Mutumbo right now so its pretty safe to say he will pass eaton. if he plays 2 more seasons he could pass kareem who is about 150 head of him, but dreams record for now is safe. (dream has 800 more than deke)
When it comes to unexplainable mancrushes, AK's at the top of my list (although I like my women with meat on em...) One game is 17 blocks by Elmore Smith of the LA Lakers on January 25, 1986: http://www.nba.com/history/this_date_january.html
January 25, 1986 Manute Bol of the Washington Bullets blocked 15 shots in a 111-103 win over Atlanta. His total is tied for second (Orlando’s Shaquille O’Neal had 15 rejections at New Jersey on November 20, 1993), behind the NBA record of 17 blocks by the Lakers’ Elmore Smith on October 28, 1973.
