Kirilenko wants out of Utah (ESPN) I've always thought Kirilenko would fit in well with the Rockets. Anyway Morey can make this happen? Do we even want this to happen? Not sure how the salaries work but some combination of Hayes, Sura, Alston, Head, Snyder, Battier?
We would have to give up too much and his contract is HUGE. It'd make more sense for a Marion-Kirilenko trade with fillers. Which sucks for us cause it'd make both teams better.
Luckily Morey is the GM and you're not. There is no doubting that Kirilinko is a better player than Battier but not at their respective salaries. While he doesn't have the unique defensive game changing ability of AK47, Battier is also more consistent and stable. No thanks.
Battier stays healthy, and Battier is a much better perimeter defender. I'd rather have Battier than Kirilenko and his 5X5's at any price.
You are right about health, but Kirilenko is one of the premiere perimeter defenders in the league. Battier is fairly average as an individual defender. Regardless, you are right, I would much rather have Battier anchoring the team defense as a floor general for 82 games rather than 50 games of Kirilenko in uniform, with 25 being out of this world defensively.
Battier is fairly average at everything. I love the the guy but he shouldnt even be mentioned in the same breath as Kirilenco. Kiri is the best defensive SF in the game. Doesnt matter because his salary is to high for us to atain him. However he would be the best defender on this team and the 3rd most important player. By the way he has avereaged 70 games a year over his career if my math is right.
Correct that - was a premiere defender. He was great only when allowed to roam free like a striker in soccer, awfully hard to accommodate that in any pro system. And now, he's lost several steps. Not as quick or explosive as he was a couple years ago. He's always been a mess on offense, very erratic. Evan
Kirilenko is a weakside wonder, Battier is a better one on one defender. Don't get it twisted. Being realistic, his salary is way to high for me to even have a thought about him.
Battier is much better than Kirilenko. Whoever it was that said Battier is only average at one on one defense is not watching. Battier is a good individual defender and a great team defender. Recognizing where to try to push and deter his man to, is an individual skill. Battier for Kirilenko would be the Jazz raping us. Guy is always injured and is overrated defensively, plus he is a poor offensive player.
I take Battier over Kirlinko, not only for the reasons already mentioned (salary also playing a role) but Kirlinko's shot is iffy, Battier can nail those corner 3's. And whoever said Battier sucks at 1 on 1 defense obvisoley missed all the problems he gave Kobe last season.
In this commercial society, sallary determine anything.(Exception:if he really can bring a Champion to Houston) So,we can't see Ak-47 will be in our roster.
You're completely off-base. Kirilenko is a great weakside shotblocker and has good anticipation, but he doesn't have the foot speed to shutdown much of anyone on the perimeter. Battier is a top 3 or 4 individual perimeter defender. Hell, he was statistically the best defender in the league with Memphis. Do you think he got there by being just a good team defender? Have you watched the rest of that team?
Except it wouldn't make Phoenix better because Marion is better in EVERY FACET OF THE GAME. All you people need to get off AK's jock, because he's not good anymore, at least not as good as he was. And he probably never will be again, which is why he's got a max (read: unmovable) contract.
Ak47 fits well with the running offense but there will be a lot of player that will be involve to push the deal and luxury tax will be over the limit. Just like the way i wanted to happen but to much money involve, so i pass up!
If you think Shane Battier is one of the top 3 or 4 individual perimeter defenders in the league, a dose of reality may be in order.
alot of players involve? actually thats the whole idea, as we are trying to trim down the players. If battier and AK47 is compare a year ago, it will be no contest of who is the better player. AK47 is an All-star, and a DOY candidate. Last season is just one season where he played badly as his confidence drop. With the MVP and new surrounding, i would not be surprise to see him getting back to his standard. Talking about luxury tax, we already have a core of players that will be here for the next few years, Yao for 4 years, Tmac, Scola and Hayes for 3 years and AB having his 2 year contract. Hence having a team of Yao, tmac, scola, hayes, AB, AK47 and maybe SF3 for the next couple of years, i would not mind having rookies and vet min players to fill up the rest of the team. So a trade in the lines of battier, rafer, sura and reed for AK47, will delay the luxury tax issue one more season, and we have a 15 players roster completed.
Utah can find better deals than battier, rafer, sura, and reed.. Even if they do take it, I'm not sure I want Kirilenko on the team.
You know battier is overrated when people pick him over ak47. Battier is good, but you guys greatly overrate him and I highly doubt and of you guys valued battier this much when he was on the grizzlies and he's the same player here as he was there. AK47 would be great, but unfortunately, salaries make that impossible.
