I'm stuck at hobby waiting on my moms flight which was supposed to arrive at 7:20 but was still on the runway IN Dallas at 7:30.. Pretty much all of my airplane experiences since the price of fuel spiked have been this way. Anyone else?
I traveled through O'Hare last Thanksgiving, and despite the airport being packed, my flight left on time, landed early, and my luggage arrived intact. I was amazed, to say the least. I think airlines get a little bit of a bad rap. If you stop to think of the shear number of people they transport on a daily basis, the problems they have are really quite small, percentage-wise. Having said that, it does grind my gears that they want to charge you for peanuts on some flights now.
I'm guessing it's Southwest, since you were waiting at Hobby. I believe Southwest is actually the most punctual airline or one of the top three but I bet every once in a while the flights get delayed.
jeremiah would know my last flight with southwest and the delay I had with that. but totally agree with him I've flown a couple of times since this past april, not very far from LA just the neighboring states for business and all were delayed. I've had to drop off and pick up family members from the airport as well and every time their flight was delayed except my dads last week which was an international flight which was on time for its departure. whats sucks was my co-worker was telling me that on a recent flight out to chicago they were delayed 45 minutes in the air because the weather was a lot better than anticipated. They were expecting heavy winds and fog and so when they approached chicago they had TOO MUCH gas and had to circle around in the air for an additional 45 minutes to BURN GAS just so they can land. i know airlines usually fill the plane with enough gas now to get to the destination but maybe my physics and aerodynamics need brushing up on but it doesnt make sense that a plane couldnt land with more than expected gas in its tank. either way man it blows lately
I travel weekly for my job... and yes - since May I've noticed that EVERY flight I've taken has been delayed - anywhere from 20 minutes to 5 hours. Makes business travel all the more frustrating when you need to fly in-and-out of a city in a single day just to make a meeting... I'm at a point where I HAVE to fly in the night before a meeting and waste money on a hotel room just to ensure I'm not late to said meeting because of airline delays anymore.
Jet Blue blows a$$ if you're flying to NYC (JFK). My flight to nyc was 1 hour delayed and 5 hours delayed coming back to Houston. Then again, any flight in or out of nyc = automatic delay.
I travel back and forth to Houston a lot and they use to be on time, many years ago...I can't remember the last time any carrier I flew was on time... Especially out of Dallas, which is weird b/c that's southwest's hub and you would think they'd be on time...
Funny, I saw a special about airlines on TV earlier this week. Basically the reason why planes can't land with more gas is because it would make them too heavy. Trying to land a overloaded plane puts undue stress on the plane's breaks, which would be bad news if those go out.
