I'm surprised there hasn't been a thread on these already. So Kanye West is the first non-athlete to get a Nike shoe contract and people are going CRAZY over these kicks. I live in Chicago, so maybe there's more hype here than in other places, but people were lined up for over 24 hours to get a pair of these last weekend. They were selling for around $250 retail, but a lot of sneaker stores were selling them for $500+ on the release date and they've been going for $700+ on eBay -- insane, I know. Here's a documentary someone made on release day at the sneaker boutique near my apartment: <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/uv0a-TYRlKk&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/uv0a-TYRlKk&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
He has some Louis Vuitton sneakers coming out too that range from $840-$1140 per pair. Seems pretty ridiculous to me, especially with the current state of the economy.
I don't get the whole shoe fetish...I mean sneaker pimp thing or whatever...but those are pretty cool looking. Can't say I'd wear them though. More power to ya, but that's one expensive hobby. BTW, I just read that Diddy was the designer of the Mavericks alternative green jersey. A random fact I had no idea about until now.
I makes me happy to think about the 400 Malaysian children who worked tirelessly for 17 hours a day for those Nikes. Those same Nikes that will inevitably be scuffed by some wack ass busta and then you will never wear them again. America +1!
I may have cared when I was in middle school. Have to agree with finalsbound though... shoe styles have gotten weird. I don't get the design or the colors. I could vomit on a pair of sneakers and they would look better.
The documentary gave me hope that the economy isn't as bad as I think because it'll probably be really rare to see people lined up for some expensive Kayne West stuff but during this recession it's NUTS
These were the only stores that got them in the country - LINK Only places in TX were Active Athlete and Premium Goods in Houston, Motiv807 in Austin, and some store in Dallas.
People who wait overnight just for shoes are ridiculous. Just my opinion. The shoes look okay though, looks like a bunch of other shoes that have been coming out the past couple of years.
