The problem is Lebron doesn't want t be in the dunk contest at all. Anyways I would love bud to be in it and I also think he can win it.

Aside from Buds putback against the celtics, JT is the best dunker on the team. His dunk against the cavs and alleyoop against the pacers were both disgusting!

just because you have hops doesn't mean you would do well in a dunk contest.

    look at shannon brown.

Brilliant idea! In the dunk contest, the novelty factor is key to winning. Frankly, Bud being a white guy gives him an immediate surprise element. I know Brent Barry, or was it Jon, did it but I think Bud has even more spectacular hops.

Also, this could bring him some endorsements, even if he doesn't win.

Budinger can do some fancy dunks. He got robbed in the 06 McDonald's All-American dunk contest. Lost to Gerald Henderson.

The dunk contest needs to go. Its had about 30 years to run its course. There's only so many ways to dunk a basketball through a basket. At this stage, its less about the dunk, and more about the gimmicks surrounding the dunk.

I say GO for the gimmicks. It still counts as player creativity. If Chase Budinger wants to get shot out of a cannon from the other side of the court, let him. But the player's arent stuntmen. An in-season dunk contest they would still only go so far.

Still, professional dunk contests are OUT. Its not a prime event event anymore. Players do contest style dunks in pregame warmup now. Its more something to be shown on ESPN2 on a slow sports day. I say Budinger should do the self respecting thing to NOT participate in it :)

I wish we still had James White, he would absolutely dominate the dunk contest with his free throw line dunks.

Budinger is a great dunker. However the Dunk Contest is not won by great dunks but by the most athletic and entertaining dunks. :p

that's what we all thought before the francis/carter showdown and look what happened. Still, repeats aren't that bad as long as the player's style is unique. the problem still continues to be that the best dunkers dont participate.

As for budinger, he's got a shot because he's obviously gifted vertically, so that allows him to do a variety of dunks and i think he's the type of guy to go all out...however it depends on the comp. He's not the most stylish guy on the court, so he could make it close or come in last place.

They should get rid of the dunk contest and add a new thing. Something like a seniors game!!! Get Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olojuwon, Clyde Drexler, Magic Johnson, Robert Horry.... That would be beast and then I would actually be something people would watch. They should also start a highschoolers game to get the fans exctited for about four years into the future to hope he comes on their team and become the next Jordan or Lebron.

Gimmicks are fine as long as they don't overshadow the dunk itself. Gimmicks should be a means to an end, not the end.

Also, let's get some people in the contest who can PALM THE BALL. As far back as I can remember, the sickest dunkers could swing it around like a tennis ball. That'd be a prerequisite if I had a vote.

That's discarding a lot of history and tradition. Also, its just fun to watch players perform dunks you don't see in games. It definitely shouldn't be the marquee skills competition anymore. The expectations are just so high, that it becomes a letdown.

Dunk contest ended ever since Vince carter's last appearance. Just went straight downhill from there.

Heck yeah this is what I am talking about. Have an East Vs West 1/2 court classic game. Just like they were to pick up and ball in sombody playground court.

Bud almost won the McDonald's slam dunk contest back in 07. Some people say he got robbed.

I agree 110% and expressed the same thing in the Dish thread during AS weekend.

I think that the skills competition is also lame. It's a good idea but needs some kind of change. It's too short and dull. Make the obstacles more challenging or something.

I've always loved the 3pt contest. That never gets old.

The AS game itself and the Rook-Soph games are also jokes. I suppose they have to be played but there has to be something that can make them more watchable.
