Leave it up to you wacko liberals... I don't care how much right wingers hated Clinton, they never did anything this ridiculous. I know you left lovers don't like the source, but there is an actual audiofile of the show... and even jokingly threatening the President is a no-no, ESPECIALLY on the radio. If you don't respect the man at least respect the office. -------------------------------------------------- XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX WED APRIL 27, 2005 09:01:25 ET XXXXX AIR AMERICA RADIO INVESTIGATED AFTER BUSH 'GUNSHOTS' **Exclusive** The red-hot rhetoric over Social Security on liberal talkradio network AIR AMERICA has caught the attention of the Secret Service, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned. Government officials are reviewing a skit which aired on the network Monday evening -- a skit featuring an apparent gunshot warning to the president! The announcer: "A spoiled child is telling us our Social Security isn't safe anymore, so he is going to fix it for us. Well, here's your answer, you ungrateful whelp: [audio sound of 4 gunshots being fired.] Just try it, you little b*stard. [audio of gun being cocked]." The audio production at the center of the controversy aired during opening minutes of The Randi Rhodes Show. "What is with all the killing?" Rhodes said, laughing, after the clip aired. "Even joking about shooting the president is a crime, let alone doing it on national radio... we are taking this very seriously," a government source explained. An Air America official tells Billboard Radio Monitor that they have no comment and are conducting their own internal investigation. [A Randi Rhodes Fan site is offering an mp3 clip of the broadcast.] http://server2.whiterosesociety.org/content/rhodes/RhodesShow-(25-04-2005).mp3 Developing... ----------------------------------------------------------- Filed By Matt Drudge http://www.drudgereport.com/mattabt.htm
BRILLIANT!!! by the way...there are wackos on both sides who will stoop to this kind of crap. no excuse for it.
A kinder, gentler approach would be to drive him out into the country, let him out, and see if he can his way home.
Like 99.99999999% of Americans, I'm not familier with the Randy Rhodes Show but I do know that he was a helluva guitar player!
I've always thought jokes about killing the president in public were off limits, if not illegal, it would at least cause an investigation. On the other hand I don't like any kind of censorship of jokes. But it is what it is. I also agree with Max that folks on both sides do things this stupid, and worse.
Randi Rhodes makes a JOKE about messing up the prez with guns if he messes with SS. DeLay and Cornyn pander to right wingnuts by threatening mostly Republican federal judges for not doing what they are told. BTW, the Secret Service is also investigating Jay Bob Klinkerman, a leader of the Colorado Young Republicans, for 'impersonating a Secret Service agent and kicking out three harmless people from a taxpayer-funded "town hall event" (because they had a "no blood for oil" bumpersticker on their car)" You go Secret Service.
Well, looks like it's been taken down. From the transcript, it doesn't sound like it's meant to be a threat. It's a lame attempt at saying they are willing to put up a "tough as Dirty Harry" fight. I'm sure with proper digging though, we could find similar things aimed at Clinton. "Like 99.99999999% of Americans, I'm not familier with the Randy Rhodes Show" Could ya exaggerate that a little more...
This illustrates how stupid partisan politics is. I guarantee you that if Delay made a joke about killing Kennedy or Clinton or whoever (or is it whomever?) the liberals on this board would be on the attack. At the very least they would make snide remarks about how "redneck" republicans are. But if it comes from the left, it's no big deal. It's just a joke. Get over it. The partison right is no better. So, stop for a second and examine yourselves and realize that you are no better than the otherside that you hate. PS: Randy Rhoads was my favorite guitar player when I was 16 years old. Those first two Ozzy records are classic.
here's some historical perspective: http://www.mrc.org/mediawatch/1995/watch19951101.asp#6 Ten years ago, on April 24, 1995, with the Oklahoma City bombing still echoing in the news, President Clinton denounced "promoters of paranoia" on the "airwaves." Peter Jennings relayed: "Clinton did not say so specifically but he clearly had the words of many ultra-conservative talk radio hosts in mind. All you have to do is listen to some of them to hear how they react to those with whom they do not agree." The network newscasters demonized talk radio as "democracy run amok." Tom Brokaw said Clinton appeared to aim at "talk radio programs that cater to the far right of the political spectrum" and that talk had "achieved a machine gun reputation in recent years."
No the right never tried to do anything like impeach Clinton or slander his wife or anything like that. My what short memories we have.
I think the point isn't that Clinton lied to the Grand Jury. He did, and nobody can deny that. I think the point is that it is ridiculous that the investigation centered around Clinton having an affair, and that spending tons of money and even bringing Clinton in front of the grand jury for that kind of thing was ridiculous. Claims that he and his wife murdered Vince Foster were easily more ridiculous than this joke, since the claims of the Clintons being murderers were serious and not a joke. Other people mentioned the recent statements by the right wing that inferred that judges were opening themselves up to violence by certain decisions they made from the bench. That was serious as well.
