http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/steve_aschburner/01/30/pistons/1.html I honestly can't blame AI this time, Curry is an idiot (where is Flip?) and utilizing him all wrong and the Pistons players seem to be ignoring him. *sigh* how the mighty have fallen.
How can you not blame Curry for forcing AI to jumpshoot when he can easily drive in and create his own shot? How can you not blame him for not even trying to use Iverson? In the fourth it seems Allen is not even in the game, reduced to a 4th or 5th option. Dumars needs to fire that bonehead.
He is a loser and has a style that doesn't correlate to winning basketball. Detroit should trade him to Memphis, he would fit in perfectly with their discombobulated, free possession style.
I don't blame Dumars because getting AI was mainly about realizing their team wasn't good enough anyway and AI's expiring contract will make them a player in the FA market this summer. The Pistons needed some fresh bread and this was the first step. I don't think much of Michael Curry at all but AI has to realize nobody will build their entire offense around him. Those days are gone. At the same time, he isn't the only Pistons player frustrated with Curry. Their team is in turmoil. I love it!
He almost single handedly carried his team to the Finals against the Lakers. TMAC hasn't even come close to that. I'd much rather have that "loser" than our current loser TMAC.
Exactly. I have no idea how Dumars is to blame for this. The trade was about realizing that team wasn't good enough while taking a wild shot with AI this year. So the hail mary didn't work out - who cares? They'll still have the cap room.
AI brings nothing on the offensive end that Det. needed. But the problem is largely on the defensive end. Putting an undersized AI in the game with Stuckey means the latter has to guard out of position, often assigned to other teams' star scorers. Last night AI couldn't guard Ray Allen or Paul Pierce, so Stuckey got put on Pierce at some point in the game and picked up three quick fouls as Pierce abused him.
yea thats crazy, hes stuck guarding kobe and other 6'5+ guards. Keep in mind he was measured with shoes 2 years ago at 5'10, pistons should trade him im sure they can get something big for him and his expiring contract
What does this thread have to do with T-Mac at all?? Stop bringing in your lame hate into every basketball related topic...
Seriously though, AI was a baller back in 01. IMO, he should sign go to the Knicks. If D'Antoni can make Nate Robinson look this good, imagine what he could do with Allen Iverson
Iverson is not a perfect fit for any teams. It seems like the best team he has ever played with was the 2001 team that he had led to the Finals. The only way he can get anywhere is if he is leading the team entirely and nobody else can touch the ball. The only player that I could see Iverson working well with is Tim Duncan, simply because he is by far the most unselfish player in the league.
at age 34, a guy who demands around 25 shots every game and shoots around 40% his entire career, will have a hard time adjusting... it is sad, it is true. hopefully ai can end his magnificent basketball career no matter what on a good note.
The reason Why curry never place ai on the 4th will be published in his later life autobiography in order to attrackting readers
Rodney Stuckey is 6'5 (just like Ray Allen) he should be able to guard wing players and AI should guard the PG. It's worked like this alot in AI's career. I just think it's ridiculous that they didn't adjust one bit for AI. They never play off of him, almost all of his FGA attempts come from either him playing off the ball, a kick out, or just forcing the issue knowing he isn't part of the offense. When they got C-webb they molded their game to mesh with him but not for AI. They run the same stuff. Stuckey penetration, Rip off the screens, Sheed post ups, Mcdyess jumpshots, Prince iso's and they expect AI to play Billups' old role. It's not just that he is reluctant to play like Billups ,he is incapable. AI didn't get to the finals as a spot up shooter.
