I know you probably know Iran better than me, but I always thought Khmoeini was the sanest leader Iran every had. He was certainly a lot more progressive than the staunch religious leaders they had subsequent to his death. However, I do agree that Ahmadinejad is one crazy mofo.

Not saying that this condone his action, but wikipedia says that 200 were bahais were executed since 1979. That's a big difference in number. At the same time, the Bahai and Islam factions have always been polarized. Do you believe it would have been better if someone else became the Ayatollah?
Wikipedia is hardly an accurate source to guage the full extent of the real story. i know first hand atleast thousends were executed under false accusations and chargers. BTW, bahais under the shah held some of the highest ranking positions in goverment. the allways is not right.

It seems you both don't know what it means to have a connection with god in Islam. These words are not meant to be taken literally. It sort of means that you are religious (That's it). It’s not like he’s saying god talks to him. I’m not defending this man; I know how he wants to get rid of a country on the map (just informing of the misreprsentaion of information). i feel i have a connection with God. He doesn't tell me to nuke you, though. virtually any one of you who prays has sought or felt connection with God. from my perspective, a connection to God doesn't promise the worldly successes or powers that this guy claims it gives him right to...or that Joel Osteen tells you He gives you right to! the guy who Jesus called the best man to ever live had his head cut off for his faith. virtually all of Christ's disciples were martyred for their faith. Jesus, himself, was crucified. the concepts of "prosperity gospel" from Christianity and from other religions escape me entirely. i don't understand them. i believe they turn God into a cosmic slot-machine with a focus more on self than on God or others. that's just me, though!
