I surpasses my download limit this month already, and so i've been downgraded to 28.8kbps instead of my normal cable modem rate. Just until the end of the month though. I forgot how freaking slow the net goes at only 28.8. I may even be forced to go outside this month and meet people.... :D

Sorry, I needed to vent my frustration somewhere...

Yeah, my ISP has a 3GB/month dowload limit. Because my bro and I mostly use the computer for downloading stuff, we usually tell each other what we've downloaded, so we don't go over the limit. The one month we don't, bam! There goes our limit.

I don't understand. How can your ISP check how much you download things? And what does downloading have to do with surfing the net?

Roadrunner was considering putting it into place a year ago, but I think the public backlash made them reconsider...

Actually, TW was said to be considering placing a pricing tiered system in at last check.

    a to b GB transfer per month = $x

    b+1 to c GB transfer per month = $x+y

    c+1 to d GB transfer per month = $x+2y

where a,b,c are data transfer rates and x,y,z are dollar amounts.

that would suck immensely if they do that...

unless it only applies to those of us who actually use roadrunner as an isp...do you know for sure on that?

What I mean is, I actually use earthlink as an isp, but their highspeed is served across a TW cable line...so would a d/l limit apply to me?

This was just a rumor/story circulating in the news last summer. no substantial evidence of it ever coming to life, so sit back, relax, and continue the heavy d/ling!

the thing is ADSL/Broadband internet is new to Australia

and this is the way it is, sure you can have an account that is unlimited but the cost would be ridiculous.

one would suspect in the future when enough people are using then the cost will drop (but i have also heard australia has limited bandwidth so this might never happen)
