Did you guys hear about that Aggie that drank himself to death on his 21st B-day?? He went out drinking had a stupid amount of stuff to drink, went home after partying and never woke up. Happy Freakin' Birthday, you're dead! His mother successfully got TABC to fine or take away the liquor licenses from 3 bars he went to that night. I hate to be heartless, but if you are stupid enough to drink yourself to death, then you deserve it. His mother was blaming the bars, when if you ask me, he should be blamed!? The guy's an adult, he knows what's up. If anyone does 7 shots in less than an hour, they are definately going to get f**ked up, to keep drinking is just poor judgement on his part. You can't tell me that you have never heard about alcohol poisining, drinking in moderation or blood alcohol content. Anyone who drinks that much is either sick, has a problem or just a kid who shouldn't be drinking. I can't believe people are not responsible. I don't want to hear about, "oh it was his 21st b-day... blah blah blah" that's BS... you know he was drinking before he was 21 and there's no reason to overdo it when he turned 21.. sheet, i don't understand how people can continue to drink even after they're drunk. That's just plain stupid. My opinion... feel free to share yours. rH
Certainly the guy is culpable for his own death, but the bars losing their licenses was the appropriate move. Bars are always walking on egg-shells because the state has for a long-time held them responsible for the drunkenness of their patrons. The bartenders should have cut him off (of course, maybe they did and that's why he went to 3) and possibly get him put in the drunk tank. For the sake of their own businesses bars have to watch for these sorts of things. ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
I'm surprised I haven't heard any Aggies saying he died like he wanted to, drinking at the Dixie Chicken. ------------------ www.swirve.com...The reason Al Gore invented the internet.
I work in a restaurant, so you know what side I'm gonna take. I will NEVER ask a waitress to cut me off. I'm responsible for myself, and as long as the waitress doesn't pin me down and shove a beer bong down my mouth, she isn't responsible. Also, i have cut people off before, and it usually isn't pleasant. There is alot of grey area, and people get embarassed and offended. ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? imo, that is one of the funniest lead-ins i have read on the bbs. ------------------ snap crackle pop
Can we show just a little sensitivity please? A kid(21 years old) and a fellow classmate died for cryin' out loud! IMO, he and his friends should definitely have used better judgement in knowing that it's not safe to consume that much alcohol in such a short amount of time. Also, it seems as though it would be difficult for a bar to keep an eye on 1 particular customer on a given evening. Ultimately, I'd have to say that the person who does the drinking is to blame. ------------------ "...just because a clever person can complicate the discussion about the truth doesn't necessarily mean he or she is making any progress in finding it."
As with everything, it's about being responsible. ------------------ Cuttino: When you have thousands of people telling you, 'You can do it, you can do it,' it helps you out an awful lot.
I got TABC certified a few weeks ago and the bar management and the person that sold him the alcohol can be held responsible for NOT cutting him off when they noticed he was intoxicated(which you know they did). It sucks for the owners, but thats the friggin law. ------------------ Don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things.
In today's society, everybody looks for someone or something to blame, when the reality of the situation is that they are the ones to blame. ------------------
Im glad that everyone is agreeing with the origional post. If people really beleive that we are responsible for our own actions, and we should not try to place (legal) blame on others, than there is hope for this world. I think the mom is to blame and it was her guilt that led to her legal action. Now I ask you this rockets fans... do you plead innocent to reaffic tickets, you know you were guilty for??? have you ever sued someone because you knew you could win(even though you were partly to blame)? and lastly do you think that if you were in the position of the mother, would you have done the same thing?? just curious.. ------------------ Hanta-Force Paintball www.hanta-force.com
I don't think the guy deserved to die, he's a human being. He is responsible no question though. I think the bar should lose its license IF they continued to serve him when they knew he was unbelievably drunk. That's irresponsible, but he definitely didn't deserve to die. Imagine if someone you knew and loved did something stupid like this, and I came up to you and said "well he deserved to die", how would you guys feel? ------------------ Meow!
If the bar knew he was drunk and they still served him, they should be held liable, no matter how stupid the kid and his friends were. ------------------ www.swirve.com...The reason Al Gore invented the internet.
I do plead innocent to traffic tickets if I think I can get out of them. I really think that's a different scenario. If I were the mother, hmm...tough question. I don't have any kids. I prolly wouldn't sue, but taht's easy for me to say. I will say that if I had gotten alcohol poisoning from a bar, I still wouldn't sue. It's my own fault. As long as the waitress doesn't force the drinks down my throat, I just don't see a valid argument. As for suing if I know I can win, no. I think there are other ways to make money. Now, if it's some billion dollar company that is screwing me over, then yes, I sue. ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ?
