Was just getting a general consensus here.......

My sister and her husband have a seven year old...............and he still sleeps in parent's bed! Boy is in first grade for God sakes.

Is this at all normal? What age are most kids in their own bed?

I think my sister and husband should make him get to his own room.

thats borderline weird at that point. he should have been put in his own bed w/ a nightlight at least 1-2 years ago.

Know lotsa people that did that. They are normal. Especially in only children.

Agreed....but it's none of you business, either.

Not trying to sound attacking here....just wanted to point that out.

Still....seems weird to me. They ought to cut the cord. I had a "real" bed several years before I was seven. I have no idea at what age that was, but I remember it was before pre-school.

In my opinion, it is weird, but it's only my opinion. I have a 12 year old and a 16 year old. They never slept with us unless they were sick or had had nightmares. Certainly not near the age spoken of. I think it's a problem of the parents, not the kids. Again, just my opinion.

I'm not surprised. The parents should ponder that. Have you mentioned it to them?

Yeah, they bring it up, but I don't want to be rude.
I think they're waiting until he is ready.............weird.

I've often wondered if this came from parents who didn't know how to deal with a crying baby. At some point, you just have to teach them that if they cry simply for attention, they aren't going to get it. After about a week, it stops. They cry when they have a problem, but not to attract you to the crib. It's like they never figured out how to deal with it, so they kept the kid in their bed. Forever.

(well, it is "forever" to the kid!)

I slept in the same room with my mom until I was at least 10. Being the youngest of 11 kids did have an effect on the situation. I don't see anything wrong with it. In fact, my daughter is 3 and she still sleeps with us and will continue to do so until she wants to sleep in her own bed. I am guessing it will be when she starts school elementary school.

This is normal in most countries outside the US. Maybe its the fact that we are the only country in the world that can afford to have a bedroom for every kid.

It has nothing to do with that. Its about building a bond with your kid. There's something comforting about knowing that everything you care about in the world is next to you when you go to bed.

I think its a culture thing. Its pretty normal everywhere else in the world.

In regards to having a sex life. No problems there, there are other rooms to have sex in.

I don't know about the kid sleeping in the bed situation, but it seems a bit abnormal for you to be thinking about your sister's sex life.

Hmm.. prooobably a good time for me to tell mum that I should sleep in my own room now huh..

I actually know some people who slept in the same room with their parents through middle school.

Bringing up our daughter, we started talking to other couples in our community.... ya know, to build some friendships with people who are in similar life situations with us.

We soon discovered that some couples let their way-too-old-for-it kids sleep in bed with them. One couple didn't believe in having their kid vaccinated. Another couple was breast-feeding their way-too-old-for-it kids. It all just seemed very weird and surreal.
