It's reported that the Player's Union and the NBA has tentatively agreed on a minimum age limit for the players to enter the NBA draft in the new CBA. It is very similar to the NFL in term of its details. Vote and explain!
I would like an age limit. I think the quality of play would go up because players are more developed before coming into the league. Right now it seems teams draft and 18 year old and have to wait 3 years or so for him to develop into a good player. With an age limit, that 18 year old can develop elsewhere, while a veteran who is better than him at the moment can play in the NBA.
I'm on the fence on this one. I think the quality of play will go up but you should have a right to go make the money if you can when your 18. I say put a 20 or 21 yr. old limit on the NBA and have a developmental league set up for those who either just can't make it into the league or are to young, and pay them. Sort of like a minor league system. Have a 18 yr. old limit on that league. They may not be getting paid millions, but they are still getting paid unlike college, as well as playing basketball against quality competition and developing their game to be succesfull in the NBA. It would be cool of each NBA team had their own minor league team with talent that they can develop or have in case the need to fill a roster spot (injuries, etc) comes up.
Yes, only to the extent of finishing HS. I think the idea of a 20 or 21 yo age limit is stupid unless they'll open up the minor leagues to them as a trade off. It's a farce to say none of them are ready when we already have Amare and LeBron as guys ready right out of the box. It's also a wrong to say that college is the right place for all NBA-bound HS athletes. It's not. It's a faux minor league system at this point, cheating standards to bring in higher talented players that have zero intention of getting an education, much less graduating. Move to a minor league system, and if the kids are quite ready, let them develop there if they aren't college material. Evan
they should be able to be drafted whenever they claim eligibility. whether they can't play in the NBA yet doesn't matter. they can develop in minor leagues (farm teams) until they are of age. this is how the NHL does it and it works pretty good. however, the only thing is, then you get crazy drafts with young players going quick and then developing for 4 years before even sitting on an NBA bench.
i think this will probably help the nba slightly by taking a little more guess work out of drafting and by also letting guys be more developed before reaching the nba. i think this will definitely help college as the true studs will not just get to campus, but will actually be there for 2 years at least. i am completely against this.
I don't think the sackers at Krogers are making millions putting grocerys in a bag, if so I'd be there right now...
I am definitely in favor of an age limit. No one is saying they have to go to college, the can go to europe or NBDL (and make a living or whatever), they just can't be drafted. Let the kids mature both mentally and physically. LeBron is a for the most part a one of a kind. And I think Amare would have qualified for the league right out of HS - wasn't he somehow 20 at the time?
Yes, there is a minimum age, as set by the Department of Labor. http://www.dol.gov/dolfaq/go-dol-faq.asp?faqid=338&faqsub=Jobs+&+Training&faqtop=Youth&topicid=14
no age limit. There are probably more busts coming out of college than highschool. More than 3/4ths of all high schoolers or freshman make it in the NBA. I can't say that for all the upperclassman that get drafted. If they got the talent, then they shouldn't be limited.
Instead of putting age limit, I think they need to get rid of guaranteed contract for 1st rounders. That way only the good high schoolers dare to make the jump.
